so hard to believe vinny is 65, where has the time gone, he was just 25 when he and the rams gave the steelers everything they could handle in super bowl 14, happy bday vince, and many more!

Time to sign up for Medicare. I'll be doing that in a couple more years.

Great memories. Vince is one of my all time favorite Rams. I even love his facemask on the SI cover.

it's a dungard...

they were very cool facemasks, worn in the mid 60s to late 70s, made of pressed aluminum which made them lighter than the rolled steel facemasks of the day, altho more than a few players thought that their wide flat bars reduced visibility, especially when it came to the linemen models... dungards were very popular at the collegiate level and slowly made their way into the nfl, with certain teams going practically all in on them (for example the chiefs, vikings, dolphins, etc.).

vintage helmet collectors covet these rare masks, so if you ever see one at a garage sale grab it, and then flip it on ebay for $100-$300.

dungard/rams - sadly, for vintage helmet collectors, the rams were very vanilla when it came to helmets and facemasks back in the day, thanks to don hewitt's (rams longtime equipment manager) loyalty to riddell... while other teams wore very interesting helmets during the 60s and 70s, often from a manufacturer near their neck of the woods (for example bears/wilson, cardinals/rawlings, etc.), or cutting edge helmets (for example bike, max pro, gladiator), the rams and hewitt tended to stick almost exclusively with riddell as the company transitioned from their classic web suspension helmets to air padded helmets to foam padded helmets.

but that changed in 1975 when the rams drafted dennis harrah 11th overall - harrah wore a bike helmet at miami and wanted to continue wearing a bike when he became a ram, which of course the rams allowed him to do... from that point on more and more rams players started opting for helmets other than riddell (mostly bike).

speaking of harrah:

I shook Vinnys hand a couple times and I couldn't believe how heavy and thick his arms were. It was like lifting a weight.

Don't take this the wrong way but he was the best looking Ram QB since Waterfield... What a cannon.
