It means he’s in there right now working on being one step ahead of everyone on the field instead of a half step behind. Goff is either gonna get it or he’s gonna be gone.

Listen to the latest BETWEEN THE HORNS episode. MJD, Farr, and Long all agree that Goff needs to step his game up big time or he could be gone. Farr said Goff needs to be in there now working his tail off. MJD said the locker room isn’t happy when a guy is the highest paid player and he’s not playing up to his contract and they’re making a fraction of that. Those announcers are paid by the Rams and they’re saying this stuff. It means McVay is ok with it being said.

And this is the kind of criticism I had for Goff weeks ago, and as usual got laughed at on this board by you and some others. Fortunately, there are thoughtful open minded posters who have PMed me in support.

That’s your problem, max...

We all have opinions which we express here, and we’re all just giving our best guesses based on the information available to fans. That’s not good enough for you, though. You seem to have a need to try to convince people that you have more and better sources than everyone else. You don’t.

I don’t care what you heard from other commentators or what VinnieB told you. I’d rather hear your opinion and an explanation of what you have personally observed to support your conclusion.

I’m also not interested in your “no lose” projections (ie “I think McVay will move on from Goff but, if he instead gives him a vote of confidence in a month, then I’m still right because it means Goff worked hard for a few weeks to change McVay’s mind.”). Don’t be so afraid of being wrong. It happens to the best of us.

Oh...and I received 37 PMs, 19 emails and a singing telegram from people who agree with me.

I don't have a problem. I'm a very happy guy.

My opinion is based on what I see, hear, and read from many sources, including what I see on the field to what people I respect say. I expect you have the same approach. Seems the biggest difference is a more critical eye vs rose colored glasses.

Seems to me......and this is just an observation......there's always a lot of "whisper down the lane". Meaning one talking head will say something. Then another says something similar. Then they're all running with it. Consequently, fans will get in on that "whisper down the lane train" and it's fact. And it's "well informed" because it all started with someone in the media.

Goff is not the quarterback he was 2 years ago. That's a fact.
McVay is done with Goff. That's a fact.

I pity us poor fools if he's not gone by September 1st.

ramsman34 wrote:Has anyone considered that the competition for Goff is already in the roster? MCV really seemed enamored with Wolford. And, they are developing Perkins who is also more mobile than Goff. Kyle Trask/Florida would be available 2nd/3rd round if they wanted to add a rookie to the room/competition. Or, try to trade up higher in the 2nd to get Mac Jones should he be available.

I think Goff beats any and all of them in camp for the starting job.

If MCV is really done with Goff, let’s see how bad dads Snead really is, and how heavy the price, and go get Watson. Then, how shrewd he is in dealing Goff which would have to happen cap wise if they get Watson. Perhaps Goff, this year’s 2 and next year’s 2 could get that deal done if Watson really wants out that badly.

We won't know anything about that for a few months. But what they do in the draft will tell us a lot. I doubt they try and sign a starting caliber vet in free agency. They just don't have the cap dollars for that. Backups are backups for a reason. You won't find a career backup that would be a better option.

So it comes down to trade or the draft. If they draft a quarterback on day 2 I think its clear they're no longer in Goff's corner. Like a bad marriage that has to stay on friendly terms till the kids move out they might have to stick with Goff for another year till the rookie is ready.

Or the trade option. But his contract complicates things. It won't be as cut and dried as trading players and picks. I imagine if they are that determined to move on from Goff they could swing something. Because it will be costly in picks and/or players, that option is questionable. They have to be determined to move on from him. They have to be convinced he isn't the guy. I'm not sure they are at that point.

I have to think at least for 2021 they have to try and make it work with Goff. Get him to the level they envisioned his first few years. Both sides are gonna have to work hard at it. Especially Goff.

Only the players and coaches themselves know what they are thinking and prefer. What ends up happening might not even be what they individually are planning now. All we're doing is reading tea leaves and picking up what's out there. Same with the pundits.

Here, calling out another poster about their opinion without concrete evidence is unfounded and calling the kettle black.
I personally enjoy everyones opinion. At least until the opinions start focusing in each other rather than the Rams. We're just spitballing. It fun to read tea leaves and gratifying to read correctly. Of course the only proof is in the eventual reality.

Lets all hope the correct personnel decisions are made.

Go Rams.

Here's a mini transcript of "Between the Horns"

ON QB:
Farr: It was entirely appropriate (McVay calling out Goff). The ups and downs. Any other position would be put up for competition. Got to be honest. Can't put your support behind a guy who's been up and down. I hope he works hard. Not just to keep his job but to get back to the Superbowl.

MJD: The turnovers were a very big problem. Not understanding your reads in protection. Too many guys running free. Interceptions were concerning. Explosiveness will come once you get your speed guys out there. I'll say this, "you have to match your pay or it can ruin a locker room. To their credit they kept that locker room together. He's got to perform better if they want to keep it together next year. It's important for him to go into this off season and be the better version of himself next year."

Farr: I would take the guy we saw in Green Bay! You win 10 games with him.

MJD: And that was a guy with 9 fingers! When you get singled out the way Goff was you have to respond. I'm curious to see how he does.

I think they were dead on. It also seemed they think when he's challenged, he responds. They know it's a matter of consistency. MJD also stated later in the show, "when you have an O line that plays together for 2 years, it matters. I think that's what they're trying to get back to."

Of course this is a popular subject no matter what Rams forum you go to. Goff.
I was reading some and our old friend DieterBrock made a good point. In 6 postseason games Goff has just 2 turnovers. I read another one by Jrry32....Goff had a QB rating of 100 for his two postseason games this year. And yet another by Mackeyser.....I'm almost all in on Goff. The only exception would be Watson.

All reasonable statements.

I would ask....Goff wasn't "challenged" by McVay when he started Wolford in Arizona but he was when he started Wolford in Seattle. Of course that didn't pan out good for Wolford but Goff responded quite well. And then again in Green Bay.....so, is he back? Maybe McVay is not letting that edge slip away by challenging him for the off season...."there will be competition".... Either way, the best case scenario for Ram fans is Goff plays the way Goff is capable of playing, all year. Or he's replaced with somebody better.

The Rams did commit a lot of money and draft capital into landing Goff. All other systems are a go (with the exception of ST's) so fixing the Oline to help Goff (and Akers) succeed seems like the shortest path and the most affordable..

Yup. It’s actually comical.

Poster A: what’s your opinion?
Poster B: well, a lot of things can happen.
Poster A: that’s worthless. Give me your opinion.
Poster B: ok. My opinion is this...
Poster C: what a joke, posters saying things as if they are facts.

Never ceases to amaze me, although it should.

It’s certainly the most affordable at the moment. The question is does McVay think Goff can be good enough to win the SB.

That's million dollar question. He knows Goff is good enough to get there.
