Yeah here’s the latest in CA…

There’s a gambling ballot initiative that qualified a few months back for the November 2022 (as in over a year from now) ballot collectively put forth by the major Indian tribes, who together wield an enormous amount of leverage in the state. So we’ll be able to vote on…something.

The initiative allows for legalized sports betting but on-site only at Indian reservations, via kiosk or in person at brick-and-mortar. So no mobile betting. There are exceptions made however for on-site bets at horse racing tracks located in four specific counties: Los Angeles (i.e, Santa Anita), Orange County (Los Alamitos), San Diego (Del Mar) and Alameda (Golden Gate). Can wager on any pro team and all non-California college teams. A 10% tax is levied on profits…so look for some odds worse than you might find in a number of other legal states. 21 and over only. Expect a massive amount of advertising spent on this proposition, what with card casinos and Vegas interests aligned against it.

In fact a competiting proposition put forth by the card casinos hasn’t surfaced/qualified yet. Not sure if that too could make the November 2022 ballot.

Too much to post here from Twitter, but Chicago is having a hell of a battle over sports betting. The Chicago teams have mostly aligned in a push to stop mobile betting and limit it to kiosks in venues attached to the stadiums.

But again the Bears have their issues with Soldier Field being considered part of a city park and Chicago zoning about what can go east of Lake Shore Drive.

Opening this week at Wrigley Field on the Addison Street/1st base side where the Captain Morgan bar used to be.
