We have to counter by getting more pressure in their backfield. We need better edge play. Some new blood could help there. Go get Quinn.

Not disagreeing with any of that but i think the main way the Rams have to counter everyone and everything is by getting the offense on track...

Those are actually the 2 areas. Edge presence and pressure, protection for Stafford and push in the run game.

Is it possible we're not getting enough pressure because we don't have enough time? Playing 10 yards off the ball invites an offense to get it out quick. We have some CBs who can play press very effectively.....Ramsey, Durant, Kendrick.... I have to believe at some point Morris implements that approach and our pressures/sacks take a huge leap.

1000% agree brother! When our D allows the other team to get rid of the ball in under 2.5 seconds as Jimmie G does so well against us, it's awful hard for our rush to get there. I don't care how quick and strong our guys are. Less than 2.5 seconds is not enough time to get there unless the OL makes a mistake.

The "off coverage" is taking the league by storm right now and it's horrible to watch. It makes "average" QB's who like to play "small ball" look like HOF'ers.

I get the not wanting to give up "big plays" by using the off coverage (and it does work) but it also has it's flaws. It can wear out your D due to long time consuming drives, it can increase injury risk to D players by being on the field more and good "dink and dunk" teams will eat you up.

It also keeps your offense off the field with less chances to score making EVERY drive more important. It also magnifies any mistakes like TO's and penalties on the offense due to a lack of drives and not being on the field enough.

The off coverage isn't a new concept. Teams need to run the D out of it and force the safeties to creep closer to the line.

It just happens our run game isn't good enough to force anyone into changing what they do.

I also would like to se our DB's play more press but not sure Morris will do it. More press will absolutely get us more sacks/pressures but will also give up some big plays too.

I am ok with that since that will mean our offense will get more possessions and that most likely means more points.

Will Morris make the change? Don't see it. It's not his M.O.. This is exactly what he was playing early last year when teams were walking up and down the field on us. :roll2:

It's useful to keep in mind that while that does not sound like much, you have to take into account where those picks were viewed as likely to land, by the Panthers.

If they viewed the picks from the rams as squarely late in the rounds vs 49ers as mid to mid/late, that would be important.

Ask the Lions how they felt about holding that 32nd pick ;)

Good break down from different perspectives.

I think the Rams are living rent free in the heads of the 49ers upper management.

They traded up for Lance like the Rams did for Goff. They saw the Rams go out and get Ramsey. They also were apparently beat out in the pursuit of Stafford.

I hope this latest move blows up in their face as well.
