The age factor has changed. And you can't just make it "superbowl qbs." Whether or not a team gets to a superbowl is not on the qb alone. Put Ryan on a different team for example and they get there a couple of times. The real criteria is how long do qbs play well in these years, how old can they be and you still can count on them.

Ryan is 36 and still going.
Brees played till he was 41 or 42.
Rivers played till he was 38 or 39.
Rodgers is 37.

At 33, looks like Stafford has maybe around 3 to 5 years.

Trying to come up with short term "absolute lifetime grades" for these guys is the problem that led to all the hyperbole trashing Goff way beyond what is reasonable.

And if Stafford happens to start out slow, so what? He will find his groove.

Ok, BUT last year Ben Rothlisberger looked terrible! As great as he is, Drew Brees has been noticeably declining for years. Tom Brady is truly in a class by himself. He is one of a very few qb's who hasn't shown much decline after the age of 35.

As a Rams fan, I hope for the best. But I really don't like the way JG was treated.
By all means do what's best for the team, but don't treat good people like trash.

There were certainly aspects of the divorce that weren't warm and fuzzy. Not a good look or considerate but we really don't know what went on behind the scenes.
Hoping no karma consequences are due.

Goff was horrible under pressure, but was tall enough to throw the ball away many times. He also got happy feet and threw ridiculous INT's which was the mounted frustration between he and his coach. Mcvay many times had the right play call for the defenses, but Goff's anxiety usually from just 1 rusher, who blitzed was enough to cause a muff. I've watched the Lions over Stafford's career and he was on far less talented teams with less and still attained good stats. Stafford will make the Rams a 10 point better offense than Goff simply with his mobility and Ability to keep the chains moving ..I'm glad the Rams made the trade, and I'm sure many on the team are as well ,and that isn't a knock on Goff..

Who's going to produce more with Stafford? Kupp or Bobby Trees? (or Van Jefferson?) Woods the last 3 years....86-90-90......14 TDs......439 yards rushing......4 TDs..........3716 total yards. Along with Kupp, a couple of formidable wide receivers. Will VJ break out?

Actually no he wasn't consistently horrible under pressure. PFR lists qb pressures per game in their boxscores and it is possible to identify the 5 games where he faced the most pressure from 2018 thru 2020. The Rams won most of them. The top game in terms of pressures was the 2018 Monday night Chiefs game where he played quite well. In fact JG has a better qb rating against the blitz in 2020 than Stafford did.

I don't expect Stafford's lower qb rating against the blitz in 2021 because if nothing else he won't be playing from behind as much as he did with the Lions, plus the Rams have a running game, which helps tilt the odds. Both things combined means the defenses he faces can't tee off as much.

Well ZN I suppose there's a Stat for everything if anyone is trying hard to fish up a apology for Goff's happy feet. The Stat that really stands out is comparing Goff's rushing yds and Stafford's. I guess there isn't a Stat for fumbling at crucial moments ? Is there a stat for lost fumbles on final drives? INT's etc? And the easy one, come from behind game winning drives. Be honest , how did you feel with the game on the line and behind by 4 points or more with Goff? I personally had as much confidence in Goff as he did when it counted most. I believe Goff was not a Clutch performer under pressure, whether it be the Blitz, or the circumstance of the heated moments in a game. I sincerely hope Stafford will be, and I believe Mcvay feels the same way, hence the trade happened.
