I didn't realize you left out "and" and that is not what I was saying. I got the gist of it.

Moklerman >>>> "There was plenty of evidence for them to draw from in deciding to implement a policy of re-working contracts early and paying out large guarantees and the history suggested strongly against that. The did it anyway and the got burned. They earned their criticism."

So it doesn't change what I said. What you're saying is, it's rarely worked out good for teams who did that? And that's still absurd.

Yes, they earned that criticizm..........from folks who like to second guess when things go wrong....on either side of the ledger. A well paid Gurley having his knee limit him or having a well paid Cooks revisit concussion protocol OR losing Littleton, Fowler and others. Like you said, it's easy to second guess and I agreed because second guessers are always right. And they never offer intelligent suggestions before the fact.

I guess this is a rare situation then. Many people questioned the Cooks, Gurley and Goff contracts at the time.

Well "they" usually question everything.

Contrary to what a few think, getting in trouble with the cap is not exclusive to the Rams. Every team at some point has gone through it. The Patriots seemed like they didn't because they had an elite quarterback, coach and system. But now they will probably start experiencing the pains the other 31 teams have gone through at some point that past 20 years. Its life in the NFL.

We had an open window, went for it and fell just short. So now the window is starting to close. Its not closed yet, but its not as open as a couple years ago. Lets say its half closed. Whether or not they can lift it up or it closes more remains to be seen.

The 49ers have that window open but it will close soon. Other teams have that window open. Ravens, Saints, Chiefs. Those windows will eventually close. Its the NFL. Everyone goes through it sooner or later. The Chiefs have the best shot at a dynasty because they might have that generational QB. Again, it remains to be seen. If the Chiefs don't end up with that dynasty, then I doubt we will see one for a while.

Controlling for injury, the offense Should be good. They lost 2 starters who’s production was trailing. They have the ability to bolster those positions with experience on the roster and with cheap draft picks to develop. On D they lost 4 starters or players who played significant minutes. They have already added players to the first 2 levels of D. Like on O, they have younger, cheaper options set to step into bigger roles whom the team has been developing. They also have the draft to add a couple cheap players to develop.

None of this changes the grip the dead money has on the cap this year and next. But again, controlling for injury, the talent is mostly there and IF these younger players develop and perform, the cap situation won’t be that difficult to ride out.

Where this becomes problematic is keeping guys like Ramsey who we just might not be able to afford.

That is a problem created by recent contract and cap mgmt. Time will tell how much being cap strapped in 20 and 21 hurts the team now and after 21 as far as keeping stars and acquiring blue chip talent.

what i'd like to see are articles asking why teams with huge cap space often continue to suck, i mean isn't that the inverse of claiming doom for the teams with almost no cap space? if you have a lot of cap space you're clearly going to do well, right? ;)

We aren't in cap hell in 2021 at all. $65M on a projected $209M cap (Spotrac). Could re-sign Ramsey, Kupp, JJ and still have $20M left. Plenty of contracts to get out of next year, too, with savings. Cap also may go to as high as $230M with new TV deals.

A little more than usual? Sure. Rebuild? Nonsense.

That's your opinion and I now respect it lol. But my opinion is this team has many holes and even more unknowns.

Who's the RB? Henderson? How will he perform? Can he pass block?

How much does Whitworth have left? I know you don't agree but he looked done 2 years ago imo and he has the most holding penalties of any LT last season.

Who's the LG? Corbett? A guy that got beat out by a guy off the street doesn't make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Will Havenstein bounce back? He was terrible last season.

Who's the ILBs? Guys who have never started an NFL game unless you count Reeder and if he's starting again the Rams are in trouble imo.

So to me, when you have that many holes it's a rebuild. Not saying they will suck because you can still win games even when rebuilding.

All the LBs were on the roster for at least two years, except one. Their entire starting secondary returns with 2 young studs at safety and the best or one of the best corners in the game.

Aaron Donald.

Lost 2 starters on offense.

Not a rebuild.

Your opinion.
