aeneas1 wrote:thing is, why would demby have known more about the rams system or have been more up to speed on line calls / audibles than the rooks? i mean demby is a rook as well for all intents and purposes - the rams drafted him in 2018 and waived him before the start of preseason, and then picked him up off the lions practice squad towards the end of last year but he was never activared... all told, headed into this season, demby had never played a snap in an nfl game (other than preseason).

anyway, the offense has looked much better lately, let's hope it continues to do so this weekend!

He had 2 camps with Kromer v. one.

Plus there's more to shaking off rookie-ness than simply knowledge of the system. It's being acclimated to a ton of things such as how to train and and knowing about technique.

If a team is going to be strict about not starting rooks if they can help it, then that explains Demby.

Yeah it failed in this case and he was replaced starting in game 7 when Edwards became the LOG after NB's injury, not Demby.

Is there evidence the Rams don't play rookies other than the normal obvious reasons? I just doubt the newbies were up to snuff yet. If they were, they'd likely play in a position of need.

Well no one said they don't play rookies at all. As was mentioned, they did with Rapp and Kupp (and in fact Gaines too). But the OL? I don't think they would have started Edwards or Evans without injuries though. Kromer was saying during the pre-season Evans was behind, and only later said he was catching up. So I agree about waiting till they were up to snuff. It's telling that Demby came in before they did. The only other explanation is that they went alphabetically. 8-)

Obviously, the OL coach doesn't have final say, the HC does but in his three previous stops as OL coach or OC (Buffalo, Chicago and the Saints) Kromer started rookies at each stop. His first year with Buffalo (2015), his first year with Chicago (2013) and his third year with the Saints (2011). He's in his third year with the Rams......

It's actually 2 in Chicago, both in 2013--Jordan Miller and Kyle Long. But as you said they're not the Rams so who knows.

You express opposition to everyone, not just whomever used the term "thrown open."

To quote Yoda... "That, is why you fail."
Yes, it was THE point of my reply. It was directed at those who were claiming he was throwing Woods open. If one wasn't saying that, then it wasn't directed at them.
