Dad's on day 10 in the hospital, has to rely on oxygen, cannot get out of bed, and has pneumonia. His o2 level was at 50% when he got there.

The vaccination was the only preventative measure either of them took. Living in Florida, there wasn't a whole lot of mask mandates going on (as you can imagine) and they both fully took advantage of that. They thought masks were stupid and only wore them when they were required to - which wasn't very often.

First off, good luck to your dad. I hope he gets well very soon.

Secondly, it still doesn't answer my question. It's a single anecdotal story.

What proof are you exactly demanding regarding masks?

I'm not asking for proof. I'm asking for numbers.

For all the people who are vaccinated (about 200 million I think) and not wearing masks (my guess is most of them), how many of them have been hospitalized?

(CNN)More than 99.99% of people fully vaccinated against Covid-19 have not had a breakthrough case resulting in hospitalization or death, according to the latest data from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

You’re asking for numbers that are difficult to quantify and gather in short periods. Plus how many people flat out lie or tell fibs?

My guess is full time mask wearing plus fully vaccinated equals extremely low hospitalization rates.

All I know is I live in a place where parts of the state where mask viewing is sign of weakness and will get you trouble. I got called a “mask wearing f*ggot” at a gas station in southern Missouri: the same place where COVID continues to rage.

My guess is that fully vaccinated take you to 99.999% of not being hospitalized as CNN reported. And wearing a mask in addition to being fully vaccinated takes you all the way up to 99.9995%.

An analogy would be, wearing a seatbelt and having airbags takes you to 99.999% of not getting killed, and wearing a crash helmet takes you to 99.9995%.

I thought we were talking about either showing proof of vaccination or masks mandates.

Raiders are requiring proof of vaccination but not masks (except for kids under 12).

SoFi is requiring masks but not proof of vaccination.

Though the way things are headed, could be requiring both is in the future...

Man, sorry to hear that.

As Garth Brooks points out, things are currently on the upswing meaning more restrictions not less especially if things continue this way.

in your analogy those who are vaxed have double the chance of being hospitalized vs those who are vaxed and wear a mask - also, if the entire u.s. pop was vaxed, a 99.999% rate of non-hospitalizations would mean that only 3,300 people in the u.s. would likely be hospitalized due to covid.

anyway, not sure numbers, stats, charts, data, etc. mean anything to those intent on not getting vaxed or not wearing masks, if they ever did.

-Masks are more than .0005% effective.
-Vaccines are 65 to 95% effective.

I know I’m not going to convince you or anyone else to wear a mask.

All I’ll say is I’ve had COVID and am fully vaccinated so I know that if I do catch it again it won’t be bad or even fully asymptomatic. But maybe I pass it on to someone who isn’t vaccinated or is high risk. So I’ll continue to wear a mask even though I hate it because it’s not all about me.

Proof of vaccination makes much more sense. That’s what will happen in SoFi.
