A1, I agree about Fisher's directive being to make the Rams winners, but my point is they were so bad, so undermanned, that it just was not viable for the first couple of year. Maybe the sting of just how horrible this team was has worn off. Look at the points for/points against numbers for those years, as one indicator of how far off the map the Rams had fallen. No Pro Bowl talent to speak of (Jackson was always worthy, but at what cost?). I think Fisher (being Fisher) has punted the opportunity to have a playoff team over the past two seasons. The Offensive Line issues are most galling to me - not really trying to get the combination right (vets, rooks, free agents). The Bradford thing was just bad stinking luck. And, they pulled the trigger on getting rid of him a season early. That's the way the ball bounces I guess.

You're right that the Rams are still the butt of many national media jokes, but that is a result of the splashy move back to big ole LA, not from their toughness on the field. I think among players, they know the Rams have toughness and talent, but have been held back by lousy front office decisions concerning personnel. I think they have a ton more respect than in the Linehan, Spags, etc. eras. Just not enough to satisfy us at this time.

I just don't give E. Stash the credit for wanting a winner at all costs. This team was at rock bottom; maybe at expansion team level before Fisher. Fisher coaches today exactly the way he coached in Houston a million years ago. Virtually no evolution. Tough guy approach to old school football with a few tricks and gadgets thrown in for jollies. And yet, an improvement over previous regimes. I doubt Stan s-cans him even if they finish around 8-8 again.

I would say that Fisher was absolutely the right hire to get this team off of the "floor". But I would also argue that we are very close to Fisher's "ceiling", and therefore we need another administration to take us forward.

Brilliant post !!

I thought I'd tweak the last part to work with your analogy.
