Gareth wrote:So two different sources have the Rams #1 in pass protection and we know they’ve been pretty good at running the ball. So what does that mean in terms of the OL?

By the way - that does not mean they won’t have a bad game this week against the Ravens or some future week. Every game in the NFL has its own story.

I think there may have been some over reaction. This thread was started as "a worry". No evidentiary statistics. Nothing clear cut. Just....Brian Allen, 2018 draftee being in the center of the O line. And now there's even a thread on Sony Michel having the most rushing yards in the NFL for the month of December!!! You can't make this shit up!!!

I think it's been pretty evident with the exception of the Tennessee game, the O line has performed yeoman duty! Stafford has 4339 yards (#4), a 104.0 QB rating (#4), 36 TDs (#2), 58 pass plays of 20 yards + (#3) and 17 plays of 40 yards + (#1). You don't do that with a shitty O line, do you? The Rams are #6 in passing (276.1 ypg), #24 in rushing (103 ypg......though they're averaging 125 ypg over the last 4), #9 in total TDs and #4 in FGs. Is that something you accomplish with a pedestrian O line?

I was thinking just the opposite. Noteboom is a quality Olineman and we need to keep him at moderate money, if possible. Frickinn' Jackson played LT and did about 40 times better than I thought he would. Our Oline, when healthy is a top 5-7 unit. Not dominate, but damn good, and they protect very well. Havenstein is back to stud form now too. Being able to move that many guys around and still come out on top? Great job of coaching to me.
YES, I was surprised and disappointed we took Tutu where we did. But I do now understand the coachs' confidence in Allen, especially after we ALL bashed his ass here.

So I write a 4 sentence OP (which started this thread) indicating my fretting about how Los Ramos OL will fare against BigBoy elite Playoff D's next month.

According to PA....posting that worry was "asinine" & then he goes on to opine that I have Alzheimer's. :roll2:

Now he says that my OP/thread praising our tackle-shedding RB Sony Michel's NFL leading rushing yards for December is somehow, I dunno..
inappropriate?
maybe also "asinine"? :? :arrow2: :roll2:
wait, I know....too positive!!!??? :P :P :P

Hey PA, besides me here at RFU, and households in your neighborhood that had social gathering during Covid restrictions.....
are there any other people out there that you are stalking??!!! :P :P :P

To the sane guys out there....
I posted the OP about my OL fret, because I used to think that our linebacking was Los Ramos weakest unit....the weak link that could sink us in the 2021 Playoffs.
But then Ernest Jones got elevated to starter and we signed some cat named Von SB50Hero Miller, and I stopped worrying about our linebacking and came to see our OL, as our weakest, least deep unit....ie. the possible weak link that sinks us in this year's Playoffs. Other guys worry about Matthew Stafford in the Playoffs.....not me!
So I posted that OL opinion. That's it! :idea2:

Now I got some maniac mocking me for lauding our Sony Michel for beating out Jonathan AllWorldRB Taylor this month!!! :shock2: :arrow2: :o

....and NO!
U cannot make this stuff up!!! :roll2:

Maybe you’ve come full circle, with Jones out, Im thinking our inside LBers are our weakest unit once again.

Travin Howard played pretty good.

I tell you what I'm worried about.....the strawberries and Captain Queeg.

least amount of qb pressure faced thru week 16 (32 qualifying qbs):

per pro football focus:
1. brady (20.1%)
2. roethlisberger (23.3%)
3. stafford (25.2%)
4. rodgers (26.0%)
5. herbert (26.9%)

per pro football reference:
1. brady (11.2%)
2. stafford (15.2%)
3. roethlisberger (18.4%)
4. prescott (18.4%)
5. garoppolo (18.8%)

pressure variance due to pff counting all pressures generated per play whereas pfr counts all pressure as one (which i think makes more sense) for the purposes of pressure per dropback stats.

also per pff:

qb play when pressured rank:
22. stafford

qb play when kept clean rank:
10. stafford

Yeah, Jones is a tough one. He was getting his number called a lot. After Young was jettisoned and Hollins went down, he really helped hold the fort.

Yeah, we really did blow it in the 2nd round this year.
But our Oline is top ten; and several of our sacks were Staffords fault. I don't know why McVay doesn't roll him out more often. Not one of them is elite, but as a unit, they are quite good. Both the Oline and our ILBR groups are producing very well, and they were our two most questionable units going into this season IMHO.

Safer, think it’s waaaay too early to say we blew it with Tutu. We will need a cheap speed type receiver in the near future - although Powell looks like another possibility. And yes, Creed is playing great so early returns support your current position. Agree with Canuck that at points this season. BOTH the OL and ILB looked like the weakest positions. I think ILB is now actually a strength. ILB is weaker with the loss of Jones and Trade of Young. I think Howard offsets that a little. I still think we are good enough with both those groups to go all the way.

As far as rolling Staff out more goes, in general you lose half the field opposite the side you roll. Yes, MCV has been a bit creative on those boots/rolls where Staff has hit some great deep balls. But you can really only do that once/twice a game.

I think it’s about being unpredictable with the passing game so the rush can’t target launch point landmarks consistently.
