That would be annoying. Cleveland showed that picks are more valuable than money.
If they want him enough to trade for him then they screwed up by nOt offering more money

What if it's one of those William Hayes swap a 6th and a 7th deals?

Well, I thought about that when I read DB's post. If Buffalo is willing to get rid of him with that compensation, we should have contacted the Bills and offered it (who knows, maybe we did). Unless I'm missing something, we would have had him on the RFA salary (1.7 yr). If he was really showing something, then we could have signed him for a couple/three years. But that's nit picking. I'd take him for a 6th or 7th, preferably 7th.

Why would Buffalo be interested in that? They just re-signed the guy for an extremely reasonable contract, he's versatile and oline play is key for them.
Seems to me that with Kromers input they put a low ball bid in, kind of a "if we get him great, if not no biggie" offer.
So why turn around and trade for him when all they needed to do in the first place was poison the well with a contract the Bills couldn't match?

Problem is now we probably have to use that 2nd or 3rd on a Center instead of CB in a draft rich in CB.

Don't know what's changed
They will have tough choice at #2 no doubt. You are 100% that its a CB rich draft which means we could see a quality WR, Olineman or edge rusher drop to that spot.
Got to be a BPA pick regardless of need.
On Groy, I just don't see where they cant backfill what he would have brought with one of the many veteran players available or possibly even in house. I just cant see where they were committed to this guy being more than a back up with the contract they offered

Now, we will probably need/have to draft a center in rounds 3-5. IF that would be our game plan, and IF we think Groy is better, especially with his knowledge of the zone blocking we want to use, at times, then why not trade for him with slightly better draft capital (4th and a 7th, etc?), IF he represents much less risk because of his experience with our Oline coach? This is not the best draft for centers, so I hope we would be very pragmatic about which scenario offers us the best chance to be much better on our Oline now, even if it doesn't work out as well as hoped for ---the RFA signing we lost out on.

We wouldn't have known what we have/had in Groy until the season played out, so signing him would have 0 impact on the draft. There's no way with the salary that was offered that he was being penciled in as starter

I figured he would be the Rams next option because he was with the Redskins.

The Rams, still in need of a starting center, brought John Sullivan in for a visit on Monday. Sullivan was one of the more under-appreciated centers while starting 93 of 96 games for the Vikings from 2009-14. Missed all of 2015 with an injury, got released and was a backup with Washington last year, where Sean McVay was offensive coordinator.
