Well yes and no, really Hecker found Gay. Remember the mess the Rams had before that? The Rams didnt even pick the best kicker they had in camp, they stuck with a guy they drafted who was horrible. I am hopeful the Rams can find a way to get it done without overpaying too much.

Who can forget the Sam Sloman circus (edit: clearly I did because the first draft of this post said Sam Ficken). I have zero basis for saying this but I always wondered if Sloman being a Miami (OH) guy influenced McVay's decision there, as he was a Miami (OH) guy himself. Doing a favor to a buddy alum? Who knows. But I'd say we were all surprised by that and fortunate things worked out as well as they did ..
