I can buy the circular argument.

Goff started well.

Then he sucked for a while.

Then he made some great throws.

Then he didn’t.

Then, ah well, you get my drift.

His interceptions are a major issue. The Pittsburgh int at start of second half.. the Cowboys int before end of first half.. last night’s pick six.
We rightly point out flaws in other parts of the team.. he’s got an Int problem.

He’d throw fewer picks if the rams could run the fucking football. No one seems to notice that issue.

He’s the same qb he was last two years. When your team loses 1.1 yards per carry on avg as a team, that’ll effect your play. Rams could protect him more and not expose him in 17-18. They can’t this year because their running game basically sucks.

He’s also been robbed of 6-7 TD would be passes where the runner fell short of the goal line inside the 2. That has skewed the TD/int ratio. Lazy bum Gurley has picked up those TDs.

His brain dead INTs are an issue I agree. Just pointing out he’s not as bad as people think this year or as good as he was last two years which has been brought up in this thread.

I won't disagree Goff has been part of the problem. But he was not THE problem. While the pass protection has been better lately, the run blocking has been bad. Either that or Gurley just isn't the same guy anymore. Its possible that is the case. It happens.

They're gonna have to evaluate that during the offseason. I know they're paying Gurley a lot of money. But if Brown and/or Henderson is the better option, they have to consider using one or the other as their feature back next season. Henderson has the tools be a good one. Brown can make it a one two punch. Gurley could be the odd man out.

I'm very concerned about that since the 'mystery' of his disappearing act has never been fleshed out.
I really appreciate a team for taking care of their players, locking them in so to speak. Good for player morale. But they didnt need to go nuts and prepay players. That left them a little more vulnerable to 'when shit happens', which apparently did.

Funny how in many cases players seem to have better seasons in their 'contract years' ...

It was a mistake, shit happens. Despite that, Goff had them back on top in 4Q.
They lost the game with lousy play calling on that drive that found them unable to convert a 3rd and 1 (for like the millionth time this season).
They had their foot on the 9ers throat there and let them off the hook.
Goff played a great game, faced that pass rush, stepped up in pocket with Bosa bearing down on him, ran bootlegs, threw that unreal Td to Cooks etc.
All the while doing this with little running game.

Excellent post. I agree 100%. Goff showed me something last night.

The Rams sacked JGQ 6 times, picked him twice yet SF still won. Something was an equalizer. Could it have been plays like missed FG's or pick 6's ?

Even Joe Montana and Tom Brady have thrown ill-timed pick sixes and they are the greatest ever

just rewatched the pick, i take back what i wrote earlier, that it was a turn and throw bubble-like play, instead it was just a very bad decision by goff, especially so given the rams were moving the ball and had a legitimate chance at a 24-17 (at least) halftime lead, alas...

funny tho, watching the niners pull out that game seemed so indicative of the things that always seem to go right when a team is on a roll, the bounce of the ball if you will, last year the rams saw their fare share of it, hopefully that will be the case for the rams next year too.
