I have faulted the team for overpaying him. I saw something in the Superbowl performance that led me to believe that he'd been outed and he would never be the same guy we saw against the Chiefs. Maybe nobody could be that guy consistently but my gut told me the NFL had Goff's number and the wand was broken. He doesn't have the tools to improvise and that will be what's required of him to be effective now. I admit to being far too emotional with the Rams but I can't seem to reign it in. Another thing I noticed with this discussion. I know that anyone who takes the time to log in, read and respond to anything Rams has to love the team. In that regard we are all the same. I find it curious that these discussions often devolve into who's observations are the most accurate, who's gut the most correct. Then, the fact that we are all Ram fans gets lost. If we were all grouped together at Sofi would we be rooting vehemently or arguing nuance? Sorry...just an aside on human nature. No wonder the country is so fractured now. And...I'm including myself in that critique.

Deeply thoughtful post, my friend.

I have no doubt that if we are all sitting together in Sofi next year (I’ll be there vaccines permitting), it will be a lovefest watching our Rams do their thing.

It's RamsFansUnited and that's what it should be. Like a big family. But like many big families, there are going to be family arguments. Also like with big families, sometimes there's a relative or two who take pleasure in stirring things up, even talking out of their ass or exaggerating things. Some of us have been posting here since RFU started and elsewhere together before that. Though we don't personally know most members, we've read slants on other subjects, other QBs, other coaches, many, many, many times that are eerily similar. Sometimes someone's comments just make us wonder in what part of the family they fit. The heated family discussers or the family pot stirrers. But they are far and few between and mostly should be ignored, though sometimes, in certain situations, the temptation to expose them is impossible to resist. Great post, my Rams brother!!

aeneas1 wrote::D take away goff leading the rams to the super bowl, his 3 postseasons in 4 years, his 2 pro bowls, and he's no better than mayfield or braford! :D actually, come to think of it, i'd have to give bradford the nod over both goff and mayfield, the guy was special! hell, if i'm being completely honest, i'd have to put goff behind wentz too!

LOL. How in the hell did Mayfield make it into this discussion? He was a rookie 3 years ago. I searched for his postseason stats but can't seem to find any. As the head stat man at RFU, can you point me in the right direction?

And moreover....nobody needs to apologize for their views either!

After jumping into this thread early and often starting right after the SF game ended, I played it smart and mostly I stayed out of this "little bit of nastiness" (as the Brits would say) since Dec 01 IIRC.

The statistical one-upmanships, fiesty recriminations and insult-hurling got personal......and unnecessarily so, IMO.

As the author of the "ShitTheBed" standard for rating Ram QB performances (BTW I got that line from the Roger Sterling character in Netflix's Mad Men series)....
anyway, for me, this Goff Thread LowLight for me came in PA's missive to mocklerman when he posed the question about what nadir of QB incompetence does ShitTheBed REALLY mean! :?

You can't make this stuff up! :lol2:

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Speaking of humor, I thought I'd channel some Bill Burr, the brilliant Boston-area comic:

So I'm watching football last Sunday, and the LA Rams are playing the Walking Wounded 49ers who have half their team on IR...
...anyway the Rams QB Goff throws a Pick6 and the Rams lose by 3........AND NOT ONLY THAT!....GOFF GETS THE BALL BACK WITH OVER 3 MINUTES LEFT ON THE CLOCK....AND HE BLOWS IT!!! HE MISSES THROWS, THE RAMS HAVE TO PUNT IT BACK TO THE NINERS......WHOSE BACKUP QB TAKES THEM IN FOR THE GAME-WINNING FG.

So obviously....Rams fans are pissed! And speaking as a longtime NFL fan.....they got a legit reason!!

Obviously some longtime Rams fans are choked and they start dissing Goff in the Talk Forums.....pretty understandable.

BUT GUESS WHAT???!! Other Rams fans come out and start dissing the original Goff-dissers....
--questioning their true Ramsfandom...
--doubting their actual loyalty
--insulting their powers of deductive reasoning
--even questioning what "ShitTheBed" actually means when your QB blows chunks!
No no Charlie....this SF loss was just a Wet Fart is all....
NOW THAT MIAMI LOSS..THAT'S WHERE GOFF REALLY DROPPED A LOAD OF POOP BETWEEN THOSE 1000-THREAD COUNT EGYPTIANS!!! :idea2: :arrow2: :!2:

Back to these Rams Talk Forums...Unbelievable stuff!!
Goff actually has an Internet Flak Protection Squad!!! Who knew!!??
I guess he pays them outa that $34 million he's pullin' down this year.

Anyways, the original Goff-dissers, pretty soon, find themselves outnumbered, outflanked, and in danger of having their position totally overrun......I mean they're gonna have to radio-in A BROKEN ARROW message to HQ!!!

But hey, hey.....don't panic Goff-dissers.....Bill Burr is here with the Boston SportsFan Air Cavalry to reinforce your position....
because I went back and watched all of Goff's games this season.....AND YA KNOW WHAT ELSE I DID??!! I ALSO WATCHED THE RAMS HC SEAN McVAY'S POSTGAME PRESSER AFTER SUNDAY'S LOSS TO THE NINERS. :idea2:

So right there.......RIGHT THERE!...the Goff-dissers have got their GetOutaJailFree Card....
I mean when the NFL Team's Head Coach goes up on the podium and says:

I DON'T WANNA SEE ANYMORE FUCKING TURNOVERS FROM OUR QUARTERBACK GOFF!!!
IF I WANT TURNOVERS.....I'LL GO TO PEPPERIDGE FARM!!!

SEE RIGHT THERE!!! THE RAM HC McVAY JUST DECLARED OPEN SEASON ON JARED GOFF. :idea2:

THAT'S RIGHT!!
GOFF IS NOW FAIR GAME PEOPLE!!! LOAD UP!!! YOU'RE CLEAR TO FIRE!! IF ANYBODY ASKS...YOU'VE GOT "McVAY CLEARANCE"!!!

IT'S LIKE MICHIGAN JUST DECLARED DEER SEASON HAS COMMENCED AND GOFF IS AN EIGHT-POINT BUCK FEEDING NEAR A CORN CRIB, IN AN OPEN FALLOW FIELD WITH UNOBSTRUCTED VIEWS FOR 360 DEGREES, JUST OUTSIDE OF THE KALAMAZOO CITY LIMITS......AND HE'S STANDING STILL!!! :shock2:

I MEAN........YOU GOTTA TAKE THE SHOT!!! IT'S TOTALLY LEGAL!!! :idea2: :arrow2: :lol2:

============================
Seriously......all of us know that Los Ramos are joined at the hip Contract-wise with Jared Goff for the next several seasons. :idea2: None of the smart posters at RFU were advocating seriously for the benching of Goff........BUT WE ALL SURE AS FOOK WANT HIM TO START ACTING SMARTER WITH RAM BALL SECURITY!!! AND I AM INCLUDING HIS HEAD COACH AMONGST OUR RANKS! :idea2: :arrow2: :!2:

People shouldn't have to apologize or justify allowing emotion into their posts! Period. Full Stop!

any dime-store psychologist will tell you that emotional attachment is why guys root for their sports teams.........even when their sports teams suck! :idea2:
No dishonor in that.
We are all wired differently. We react to situations differently. So what??!!
What a boring fooking world it would be if we all thought exactly the same way! :idea2:
VIVE LES DIFFERNCES!!

:D

it's almost as if someone who still holds a torch for bradford brought him up in a awkward effort to narrow the gap between jared and sam, ha ha....

anyway, this turnover thing, i think we can all agree that the fewer big turnover games goff has the better, but some of the sky is falling posts on the subject made we wonder just how many actually saw warner play?

during the gsot stretch warner started 50 games and turned the ball over 3+ times in 12 of them, that's almost 3+ every 4 games... add to this, he kept his turnovers to 1 or less in just 52% of those starts, just crazy numbers.... goff has turned it over 3+ times in a game 7 times in 62 starts under mcvay (11%), less than half warner's gsot rate, and has kept turnovers to 1 or under in 78% of the games he's played.

the rams were able to overcome warner's 3 turnover day in the 1999 championship game against the bucs, an 11-6 win, but they weren't so lucky in his 4 turnover day in the 2000 wildcard game against the saints, a 28-31 loss.

anyhoo, lots of qb turnovers bad, few to no qb turnovers good.

Laugh all you want, you two are the one's who are defending Goff's last two years of play. I've tried to present his struggles in various ways to illustrate the point but because I'm the one who posted it, some posters seem to feel compelled to argue for argument's sake.

So, feel free to explain why sub 20th ranked Goff is actually doing really well and we're all just too dumb or biased or have ulterior motives to understand.

Like I said, when Mayfield put up 27/14 and a 93 rating, it was analyzed, broken down and statistics were given to show how he actually wasn't as good as his numbers suggested. Now, Goff has a 92 rating but he isn't actually as bad as his numbers would indicate because half of his turnovers occurred in 1/8 of his games against teams with good defenses on the east coast in the morning time slot. Or something.

Ok...Sam Bradford?!?!?! :lol2:

I assure you, it's not just those 2 defending Goff.

Found this gif of a1 and PARAM after listening to a Bradford lover comparing Sam to Goff...

Bradford better than Goff? Pardon my laughter. I can be childish sometimes!!! :lol2:

The stark reality is Goff is ranked 22nd in passer rating. And what makes it worse is that other elements to his play, such as zero running threat, and lost fumbles aren’t even part of that ranking. He’s be ranked even further down if they were.

All that other stuff, the mayfield and Bradford comparisons, the McVay deficiencies, the fancy stats regarding top defense breakdowns, the pro bowls when Gurley was an MVP candidate, all that stuff are diversions from the fact that more than 20 QBs have a higher rating than Goff.

McVay called out Goff specifically for the first time ever. No way he does that if hes not totally frustrated with Goffs performances. Not just one bad game, but enough poor performances that resulted in a 22nd ranked rating which would be worse if passer rating included fumbles.

Next 2 games are gonna be very interesting.

THAT'S the point!!!!!!! The numbers are the numbers and Goff has been playing at the same level of production as Bradford. Those who want to argue that are either in denial or hypocrites IMO.

What do you suppose Goff's numbers would look like had he played for Spagnuolo? We already know what they look like under Fisher.
