So where does Goff stand when it comes to that?

Fair question. Too soon to say. My own personal hunch is that he has the makings of a clutch qb, but then I can't offer that as fact, there's not enough to go on yet.

....

That is what I am saying. I am speaking about Goff, no one else and not comparing him to others. Comparing opportunities to success - projected - based on what I see from Goff.

/zn/ wrote:No one except apparently someone in your imagination said "Goff and the offense failed." What is it with these straw man oversensitive reactions?

The question was, how is Goff in comeback situations with a win at stake deep in the 4th quarter. That is not JUST about the Saints game...by its very nature it's about several games...and so far 9 games in, the answer is, he's 2 out of 3 which isn't bad at all. Getting defensive about that is just not necessary.

Nor does posing that question put the "blame" for the Saints loss on the offense. Unless you're just massively not paying attention.

mama mia....

goff has thrown 17 passes this season when trailing in the 4th, his qb rating for these throws is 105.5 with an 8.4 yards per attempt average, 1 td, 0 picks, and he won 2 of those 3 games, might have made it 3 of 3 had the defense not coughed up an additional 10 points to the saints after goff tied it at 35.

he's also been credited with two 4th quarter comebacks and 2 game winning drives.

yeah, huge concern goin' on there, big red flag.

See the advantage of not making everything personal first is you can be more objective about what someone says.

For example, this is far from the first time we've agreed on something.

I always play it this way---I always act like I can agree with someone on one issue while disagreeing on another.

Do the same, it works, I promise. 8-)

Jared Goff looks so much more comfortable when we spread the WR' out and go 5 wide. I'd love to see that more in the redzone.

Other than his pin point accuracy, allusiveness and arm strength, those are obvious in every game, I also noticed a couple of other eye-popping observation after looking at the tape (thanks again aeneas1).

1: Nine out of ten times Goff throws it to the best available option.

2: Goff tends to be very aggressive. If there is a guy closer that may be available he usually opts for the guy further down field. Very aggressive and you got to love it. Considering how infrequently he turn the ball over, this is really amazing stuff.

3: I would put him in the top two or three of all QB's playing right now.

4: We got him for a long time.

Carry on....

Gee, I wish I could be like you, zn.

Ooops... looks like I went the other way on that one.

Do you just live in strawman city? No one said anything about a "big red flag" except you.

In terms of number of passes in clutch moments in comeback situations, how many has Rodgers thrown? Go look. He has a rep this year as being a comeback king (and didn't in previous years). How many passes is that rep based on? No one knows without looking because no one ever asks that. The simple reason being, a comeback is usually accomplished in one series.

How many passes did Eli throw to comeback against the Patz in their last superbowl? If anyone suddenly out of nowhere decided to actually care about that, it's 6.

phoenixrising wrote:Critiquing a QB based on how he performs at the end of a game is nitpicking? Sometimes I just have to laugh at some of things I read. If you don't agree that a QB should be judged on how he performs with the game on the line, well...we disagree. .

Critiquing a QB who lead the team to scores on 4 straight drives, (erasing a 35-14 deficit) for not scoring on a 5th consecutive drive is ridiculous.
New Orleans made 1 stop.

phoenixrising wrote:I find it curious that the defense is getting universally bashed (with much justification), yet the D gave the ball back twice to the offense with a chance to take the lead -once at 35-35 .

No they didn't. After Rams tied the game at 35, New Orleans went right down the field and took the lead back at 38-35. And THAT is when New Orleans forced the first punt of the game.
Next time Goff got the ball back, they were down 10 and game was over
So yeah, you've got awfully high standards there.
Elite QB play is what got them back in the game

If the score is tied at 35 and the rams score, the Rams would take the lead.

Right.
And thanks to the defense, that opportunity never arose
