QFTOS: Aint's Pre Game Edition.

I still hate the Rams (although not as much as I still hate the Niners.)

Most of the 2TE and 3TE have come at the end of games including several knee downs. So every play is with 3WR on the field, but what set them apart of other teams using 3WRs is that Cooks, Kupp and Woods all play the X, Y and Z spots and the Rams with Gurley and the TE when they go Empty and bunch formations they always seem to get a mismatch.

I noticed it’s a lot of motions with run or pass options in the same formation and they’ll run the play back to back.

The D-Line needs to win in the trenches. Get to goof early!

Well, of the many issues that never get talked about with the Rams, Goff has had two games where he's been sacked 5 times.

going to be a tough match, glad it is a home game. we really need to get after Goff early to disrupt him and try to limit what Gurley does

Much ado about nothing in my mind, 11 personnel has been the prevailing grouping in the NFL for a while now. These guys do it well, McVay has that SP skillset of creating mismatches. A team that runs so well out of 11 will ask you: Do you want to be in nickel/dime when my big back can run over/through/around you?
And if you go with more LB/S types to counter the run, there's my personnel mismatch advantage in the passing game.
That's football.

We just need to be physical with em. Plenty of contact within 5 yards. No easy releases from the line for any of those lightweights

The entire game for us defensely will be predicated on getting a pass rush vs Goff. If that doesn't happen, we are toast.

To hear Drew Brees explain it, he was still playing with the Purdue Boilermakers the last time he faced a team with a defensive front like the one he will line up against Sunday.

Sheldon Rankins didn't have to think long when asked about the challenges of facing the Los Angeles Rams.
"There are lots of them".

Payton wants to exploit matchups, but he seems to rely a lot more on confusing the defense in order to produce that advantage. Whereas the key to the Rams offense seems to be getting in favorable down and distance situations and running Gurley against weak fronts.

If I'm guessing (wildly speculating) the game will be Gurley vs our LBs

Gurley is crazy good. Aside from his skills as a ball carrier, he also caught a 20+ yard wheel route down the sideline. GB had super strong coverage on the back end of their defense though, so we'll have to see how the Black and Gold secondary fares. On offense, GB was running all over the Rams, and to my eye, the Packers are nowhere as physical in the run game as New Orleans is this year.

It's not difficult to see why they've had so much success when they've played exactly two games against teams that are considered legit contenders at this point in the season and both of those games were played in sunny LA!!

Rams coach likes to run percentage plays to his advantage every chance he gets. That makes sense but it's also the norm for an NFL coach. Not a big revelation or anything. It doesn't hurt that the Rams have good skill players to do it with either. Physical still counts though and the Saints have learned that kind of the hard way. Hit the Rams in the mouth a few times and see how they respond. Play keep away with ball control and see how they respond

Last year the Rams got to the line early and the coach made the play call after he saw the defensive formation. Goof just had to make the audible and execute the play.
This year, defenses aren't tipping so much. The execution isn't nearly as smooth but the results are still pretty impressive.

Cooks struggles against press, we know this. I'm thinking we play it where whomever is on Cooks will press him at X, and we can eliminate him as a serious game long threat.

I keep telling you guys that Sean Payton is McVays daddy.

Saints are the most confident team in the league. Team.
We are playing great as a unit. They aren't scared of the Lambs. Great challenge though & if I'm Dennis Allen I'm going after Goff. I refuse to believe he is elite as some "experts" say he is.

Goff is a good QB and the Rams are a well coached team. As you say DA has to bring the heat and keep Goff pressured.
On the other side Drew will need the O-line to give him those extra seconds. Our newly adopted unpredictable Offense should keep the Rams guessing all day.

Our run D much stronger than the Packers. They kept Gurley in check for much of the game but things eventually fell apart.

Suh, Peters, Talib & now Dante'. Interesting personalities. Can you imagine that locker room when the losing starts? And that will start on Sunday.

Confident bunch.

Getting hype for this game.

Then i see Alice posting Buck and Aikman will call the game. SMH. The Aikman - Goff lovefest will continue. I want to punch him in the face. Buck is cool though just as long as he is not calling a Yankees game then every opposition player is Babe Ruth. Sickening.

I'll say it again the 1pm kickoff is crap.

i don't think hornsby has ever picked the rams, dating back to when he started pff, he continues to pick against them even when they're heavy favorites, he'll often be the only guy on the pff panel who picks the rams opponent when everyone else picks the rams, it's pretty funny.

I like it, morning games are appetizers before the main course. The RedZone is pretty exciting in the morning with so many games going on. Then i can focus solely on the Rams in the afternoon.

Also, it's slightly to the Rams advantage to play at their normal home kickoff time while New Orleans is taken out of their usual start time...
