And without the approval of the Comptroller

Deck chairs on the Titanic. The people of St. Louis are being given a weak and sandy reach around. The politicians, lawyers and business geeks should be ashamed. Just say you are trying to get the 33rd or 34th NFL franchise and be honest about it. The hypocrisy is disgusting.

Rams are coming home.

I don't see how Moody's would be relevant in that scenario.

Agreed.

The stadium almost certainly isn't going to happen because the Rams are moving to L.A.

So why take the hit for killing something that was going to die anyway?

I imagine the Aldermen will make some points, use it for leverage, and then pass it but we'll see.

I suppose there could be some who want to take credit for killing it...

Credit and doing the right thing. Of course nothing is worse that losing a football team though, right?
Still if their deal was dead it would make the rest of the NFL's job just that much easier, unless that decision was already made.

It's the common curse of a country bro. How we as a country managed to get 18 trillion dollars in debt often the reasons for the debt seems more important than the debt. So StL is just showing how patriotic they are by doing it the American way.

Comptroller Warns She Might Block NFL Stadium Deal

October 14, 2015 4:00 AM

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) – The city comptroller is warning those with dreams of a new NFL stadium to be financially responsible — or she’ll block the whole deal.

“The new proposal should come and not raise taxes,” said Comptroller Darlene Green. “No new taxes, and not ask for a new bond issue, because I cannot approve it, and when I don’t approve it, the deal doesn’t get done.”

Green said she decided to discuss her stadium concerns with KMOX to assert her role as an independent-elected official, charged with protecting city taxpayers and the credit rating of the city.

“They need my approval,” Green said. “They need my approval and my signature to move forward, and if there’s parameters that have been disregarded — like if there’s any tax increase — I can’t abide by that. That would jeopardize the city’s credit and I would have to say no.”

So far, Green said she has yet to see any details on the financing package being drafted for the stadium that would go before the Board of Aldermen. She added that it would “behoove them that I would be one of the first people to see it, going forward.”

Green said her understanding of the problem facing stadium planners is this: They can count on the $6 million annually the city is already committed to paying on the Edward Jones Dome, but they’re trying to find another $6 million to make up for St. Louis County refusing to participate without a public vote.

The solution Green proposes is for stadium backers to turn away from city taxpayers and turn to the state of Missouri to find the extra money. She said she would support the creation of a “State Sports Authority” able to issue bonds for stadium projects.

The scramble to fund the proposed stadium comes as the city faces the need to gain voter approval for bond issues to replace aging police and fire equipment. Green fears adding “non essential” bonds to the city’s debt for a stadium could lower the city’s credit rating and make it more expensive for the city to borrow money in the future for essential needs.

I have to give them credit there is still a lot of fight left in this dog. Personally if I was a resident I would have surmised the tide was moving against me and excepted nothing I could do about it. They are however dug in deeper than a Alabama tick. So my hat is off for the tenacity.
