I wonder if Jerry Jones will laugh at Oakland? Will he call Las Vegas an angel?

30-2. Oakland needs to be taught a lesson. The same lesson that San Diego and St. Louis were taught.

BobCarl wrote:I'm convinced that the Mayor doesn't want a NFL team in her city. The "last ditch" effort was just a legal move to protect her from locals that might sue her for not trying.

"Public Money" is tax revenue. The Mayor wanted to keep 100% of the tax revenue. The NFL was asking for a portion of the tax revenue to help finance the stadium and keep the team from going below the break-even point ... a win-win situation.

But no, the Mayor expects the team to operate at a loss.

Now she has shot her city in the foot from future tax revenues and shot her city in the heart by forcing the team to leave.

Oakland also knows they have the A's in a tough place since the Giants "own" the South Bay area and the A's can't move there.

But if I'm a mayor I'll take 81 baseball games over 8 NFL games a year.

what is worth more? 81 pennies or 8 quarters?

Below are some real numbers:

Gate receipts from 8 NFL games in Oakland = $40 mill
Gate receipts from 81 MLB games in Oakland = $38 mill

The Raiders total revenue is $100 mill more than the Athletics bring in.

oh ... and by the way .... the Athletics are going to lose their $35 mill a year subsidy from MLB.

Interesting stats but also, a new ball park costs significantly less then a new stadium. Plus, a baseball stadiums might bring in more concerts and stuff then a new stadium would.

Either way the city of Oakland lost a gem of basketball team (Warriors) right now and a historic football team in a 2-3 year span. Ouch.

And if it wasn't for the Giants "owning" San Jose, Oakland might be a zero pro sport team city.
