I believe the NFL offered $300M total each for the 2 teams in question to stay put. That's an extra $100M right there. SD comes up with $500M and Spanos actually kicks in a few $100M,, it shouldn't take much from ESK.
Not to mention no relocation fee to move to a city where you will never be top dog. Genius.

I see your point. Don't discount immediate greed and the short term gain of 30 owners getting $2 million + for 10 years from the $65 million a year Spanos will have to pay in relocation fees to move to LA.

But if I'm an owner thinking long term and wanting to protect my investment, I want the Chargers to stay in San Diego and the Rams to have LA on their own. I'd propose the league matching any extra money Spanos and Kroenke throw into the kitty.

Yeah, if it happens where the league ponies up the extra money, that wouldn't set too well with St Louis considering they were probably that much shy of shoring up what they needed for a new stadium. I can understand why some of them would be bitter towards the NFL.

Over the last few months leading up to the vote on the Rams' move, 1 year ago today, the rumor mill was rife with suggestions of all kinds of conspiratorial back-room deals going on by the other owners to either keep the Rams in STL, or move the Rams to L.A., or move the Chargers/Raiders, and endless combinations of all of the above. In the end, we discovered that the league is more loosely organized than all that, and that, aside from the owners coming together for a meeting to approve relocations, the majority of what goes on is just a matter of each owner making his/her own decisions and doing what's best for his/her own team.

I don't believe the league or any smaller collection of owners, is going to offer the Chargers anything. And I don't believe Kroenke is going to, either. I think what you see is what you get. Spanos made his decision last January, and the rest of the year spent window dressing that Convadium vote was just for show. The Chargers will be moving to L.A.

Which, in the end, is ok. Far, far better than the Raiders.

Yeah, I still think the Rams are LA's team being there a lot longer than the Raiders. But it would be close. The Chargers would have nowhere near the fan base the Rams or Raiders have. The only thing they have going is the loyal fans from SD can drive to the game in a couple hours. But they will lose a portion of that fan base the way the Rams lost a lot of St Louis fans.

Yes, sorry. I wasn't very clear. I meant to say I don't think they'll offer anything additional now, just because Spanos is announcing the move. Offers already on the table stand.
