Articles like that are worse than useless. Is the author stupid enough to think you won't find fans like that in any NFL, nba or MLB town on the country?

In a metro area with 18 million people it's easy to find a lot of people that don't care. It's similar to tv ratings. The Giants and the Jets game have lower market shares for ratings than most other NFL cities but the difference is that they still have more actual viewers which is what matters.

1% fills the stadium twice on Sunday. If they took the poll outside a USC / UCLA football-BBall game or a Lakers / Kings / Clips / Dodgers / Angels game I'm sure the numbers would have been different too.

Heck 1/3% of the population fills a 60,000 seat stadium.

These non-scientific man on the street stories are useless. They're useless when they tell you what you want to hear and useless when they don't. What is useful is the market studies. My guess is they paint a pretty attractive picture and that's why 3 teams are fighting to get to L.A. ...

This part makes it seem like a no brainer huh?
How did it take 20 years again? I think we know the answer. Besides the EPA and stadium commissions, anyone with enough money was either bound to a contract or didn't want to move.
Now that we have a clear path and an owner who is willing to make it happen, suddenly these other procrastinators or their stooges are trying to 'horn' in on the deal.
The NFL wanted this for a long time and ESK offers a awfully compelling product that he can afford. His plan is solid with the NFL's best interests in mind. And his team is the clear first choice to move to LA out of every other team in the league.
I can't see the Charaiders competing with anything on any level other that 16 home games in LA per season. What are those numbers by comparison? Is it even calculable yet or has it been determined? That would seem a major consideration in all of this. If the 2 teams make the owners way more money, it's a tougher sell for ESK even if the Charaiders are breaking the bank to do it. I've read somewhere that it's way closer than 2-1.

It's taken 20 years because you used to need public money to make it happen.

Now that private investors smell profit, it's a feeding frenzy...

Where we're these private investors all along and what is different in that regard now? They wanted a chunk of the team. Now just team profits? Will the books work?

My question was/is more about those 16 games vs 8 games and the relative NFL profit. I'm not sure how to calculate that since I imagine it;s not apples to apples

Well that's pretty much how they did it in SF and NY, Jerry in Dallas, the pool isn't empty anymore, more people are willing to jump in.

I know we agree on all of this, and that's why the NFL almost certainly really is coming this time: no public money needed, potential for profit higher than ever...
