Don't we want the #3 seed and face GB/WA rather than the #4 seed and face Det/Minn? Or are we already locked into the #3 seed by tiebreakers even if we lose to Seattle by resting the starters?

If Seattle beats us we lose tiebreakers to both Atlanta and Tampa. They both would have the better conference record. So a loss puts at at the 4th seed. Playing either Detroit or Minnesota in the first round. I'd rather see Minnesota. That Detroit offense is hitting on all cylinders lately.

Atlanta doesn't matter. They are two games behind us. We fall to four if we lose and Tampa Bay wins. Tampa Bay is a two touchdown favorite so if the Rams want the three seed, they almost certainly need to win.

I would definitely prefer the Rams get the three seed. One thing that goes unmentioned is that if the two seed loses their first game, and the Rams win their first game, the next game would be another home one if they get the three seed.

That said, I would still rest all of the offensive starters. And probably a good part of the defense as well. My hope is that they still go all out to win with whoever they play.

There are people within the Rams organization who hoped the team would be positioned in this manner, specifically in order to get a look at what Garoppolo is capable of within the offense.

Stafford restructured his contract after a long, though not acrimonious, offseason dispute and it now is effectively a one-year deal with the understanding that both sides will re-visit his future after this season. In a scenario in which Stafford is no longer a Ram (or he is, and gets injured), the team will need to know whether Garoppolo could be an effective (and cheap) bridge or a reliable backup after struggling to fill the latter role for the last few years.

Just FYI:

I got a text tonight from a friend in Seattle. Apparently their HC didn't like all the controversy about playing backups. He has apparently said they will treat this game like any other regular season game, only backups for starters who are unable to play.

That said I don't see it changing anything for the Rams. I just wonder how Shula will distribute the work load. We could see a few more starters on that side simply because the defensive depth especially in the secondary isn't particularly deep. I can see him rotating in a few of his starters in the secondary on third downs. But I would be surprised if Forbes doesn't see the field.

It's going to be an interesting game to see how good or not some of these depth players are.

I hope the Rams don't go preseason vanilla with the play calling. It would make it tough for Jimmy GQ to move the offense. Seattle's defense is probably licking their chops facing backups on the line.

I'm looking at stats of JG and they look decent. His 3rd down stats for 2022 has him at 112.8 QBR and averaging 8.2 yds and completion of 63%.

Over his career, he averages 8.9 yards... so game manager style.

I think this style of play, coupled with a lot of Tutu bodes well.

Also I bet our 2nd string OL keeps him clean enough.

I suspect we win time of possession for this game and we'll get the 3rd seed.

It will be good to see what Jimmy G can do, Corum and the rest of the wide receivers.
You can only rest so many players as this isnt college so some starters will play.

It will be good for Staff, Kupp, Puka, Kyren, Havs, Limmer and K Dot on offense the game off.

Hopefully Staff and the WR can work more in practice to get whatever is going on the last few games fixed. I have never seen Stafford so inaccurate and the WR not on the same page.
