I laughed at myself and said if they all hit this will be a damn scary defense no one will want to face.A huge part of that was Shula. I remember an interview he gave when he was an assistant in San Diego for a year. The interviewer was talking to him because of his family name. But I could see why he was the Charger's defensive quality control assistant under coach McCoy during the 2015 season. I was impressed and thought he was going to be a HC someday. I'm even more convinced. I only hope he stays long enough to take over when McVay leaves. The one thing he's better at than Sean is developing rookies. He had a hand in that when he was with the Chargers. He was under John Pagano who was DC of the Chargers back then. I see the same aggressiveness that Pagano played his defense with which I've used as a model ever since. That's why when he became DC I was elated. I told myself "Finally....Thank God. Enough of Morris' passive defensive style". Pagano brought a very aggressive style, to the Charger defense, the same type we see now with the Rams. Something I have never forgotten is what John Pagano said. He said a good DC must understand offensive schemes in order to game plan correctly. Look at who Shula is studying for his offensive model. It's why when he becomes a HC he's going to be very good at it. His defenses have been practicing against Sean's offense....steel sharpens steel. I have no doubt that Chris will get offers. But he's building something very special here so he might want to stay at least one more season to see it through. Chris and McVay were once roommates so I think if Sean is going to leave at the end of his contract Chris will know.Regardless, I'm really glad he's here now building this defense. They have gone from trying not to lose games at the beginning of the season to winning games now. Few defenses can do that and even fewer do it with such young talent. by Youngblood22 3 weeks 1 day ago Total posts: 47 Joined: Aug 31 2023 LA Coliseum Undrafted Free Agent Re: Time to fire Don's grandson POST #38 I like Shula but not for head coach, I rather have someone offensive minded. by LARams_1963 3 weeks 1 day ago Total posts: 1194 Joined: Aug 04 2016 North Port, FL Pro Bowl Re: Time to fire Don's grandson POST #39 Elvis, Flash liked this post well this didn't age well....... The season is so long now a SEPT team can hold little resemblance to a team in JAN. Hats off to PARAM, I have to say. We have to play the Eagles again but the confidence level in this D is now sky high and just as PARAM predicted, the DBs matured to save the season. That had a lot to do with 9 sacks on the Vikings. Kudos to Shula and McVay.
