Not really. We found Matt Gay on the street, out of work, history of being erratic.

The guy we tried out for punter last year, Cam Dicker, ended up being the Chargers kicker and went 19/20 and made all of his XPs. He's a FA and he can punt. Of course he had a pretty big miss against the Jags in the playoffs.

Matt Gay is great, would love to have him back but i don't think it's really all that important in the scheme of NFL roster construction...

I think the kicker position is huge. We don’t have our super bowl without Matt Gay. He made clutch kicks against the 49ers and Bucs. It takes alot to make clutch field goals. Especially clutch playoff field goals. You can’t just sign a kicker cause he might not be as accurate as the kicker you have.

He also inexplicably bricked that one against the Bucs that would've sealed it sooner. Not saying Gay isn't great, just saying a lot of guys can do his job. Wasn't too long ago people thought Zeurlein was irreplaceable, now it's Gay. I'm saying kickers aren't that hard to find...

@JackPMiller , Snead has done fairly well with kickers. Before acquiring Gay he selected Zuerline in 2012.
Slowman and Ficken were whiffs but dismissed quickly.

Well yes and no, really Hecker found Gay. Remember the mess the Rams had before that? The Rams didnt even pick the best kicker they had in camp, they stuck with a guy they drafted who was horrible. I am hopeful the Rams can find a way to get it done without overpaying too much.
