My hopes for April:

Edge: Any early AND anyone left later

Nolan Smith, Zach Harrison, BJ Ojilari, Anudike-Uzomah, Derek Hall, Byron Young, Will McDonald

RB: Kendre Miller, Zach Charbonnet early OR Rochon Johnson or Kenny MacIntosh, later

C: Schmitz early OR Steve Avila less early OR Rickey Stromberg later

TE: Any
Darnell Washington, Luke Schoonmaker, Cameron Latu, Davis Allen, Payne Durham

CB, LB, PK, DT, T

All bets are off if Kancey is there at #36

Sentiment is we can't depend on drafting rookie starters in 2023. We may not. Or we may. One example from 2022 that shows it's possible is the World Champs.

Just to make sure, they compare somewhat to the Rams of 2023, the Chiefs lost Tyreek Hill (111 rec), Byron Pringle (42 rec) Darrell Williams (47 rec) and Demarcus Robinson (25 rec). That's 225 receptions out the door. To add to their woes, Edwards-Helaire missed 7 games in 2022. On defense they lost DE Melvin Ingram (9 starts), DT Jarren Reed (17 starts), CB Charvarius Ward (12 starts), S Tyrann Mathieu (16 starts), LB Anthony Hitchens (15 starts).

Their draft?

CB Trent McDuffie (#21) 11 GS
DE George Karlaftis (#30) 17 GS
WR Skyy Moore (#54) 3 GS
S Bryan Cook (#62) 1 GS
LB Leo Chenal (#103) 8 GS
CB Joshua Williams (#135) 4 GS

T Darian Kinnard (#145) 0 GS
CB Jaylen Watson (#243) 6 GS
RB Isiah Pacheco (#251) 11 GS

S Nazeeh Johnson (#259) 0 GS

You'd expect contributions from first round picks and they got them. But 29 GS from slot #103 to #251? And 4 of those draft picks played 41% or more of the SB snaps. McDuffie (100%), Karlaftis (51%), Pacheco (47%), Watson (41%). 3 others played 24% (Chenal), 25% (Moore) and 36% (Williams) of SB snaps. We'd have to admit the Chiefs suffered some roster losses prior to the 2022 and depended heavily on 6 of their rookies, even more by the time the SB came around.

So the Rams can't do that? Suffer a number of losses by starters (6 players) and have a decent draft getting some contributors? We don't have any first round picks but #36 might produce a starter. And then we have 8 picks between where the Chiefs took Cook and Watson. #69, #77, #167, #171, #177, #182, #189, #191. <<<< Hell we've got 6 picks from the bottom of the 5th through the mid 6th (14th pick of the round). About a pick every 4 selections. And of course we can hope Snead packages one of them with our 2nd or one of our thirds to move down slightly and pick up a 4th round pick, in the vicinity of #108-#122.

There's a lot of time before we get there....time to sign a free agent or two.....then after the draft sign another free agent or two. Who did the Chiefs sign as free agents last off season? A number who never played for them, including a trade for CB Lonnie Johnson (0 G), plus S Justin Reid (17 GS), WR Smith-Schuster (16 G/ 15 GS) and WR Justin Watson (17 G/ 5 GS). They also signed RB Robert Jones (6 G/0 GS).

I don't like Kancey. He reminds me of Jerry Tillery, who ended up being a bust.

I would pass on Will McDonald.

For TE's I do like Bryden Willis, and Davis Allen a lot. They can be drafted later

For RB's, I like Chris Rodriguez from Kentucky. Even though he is not a burner, but he is strong. My gut, he is one of those guys I feel is underrated.

CBs I like in this draft, are Riley Moss, Eli Ricks, Darius Rush, & Mekhi Garner. Not sold on DJ Turner, due to watching his game tape, too inconsistent.

Isn't he the kid with off field issues and fumble concerns? I'd pass.

Nope. That is not him. I looked, nothing about off field issues, or dropping passes. He is raising money for Lupus research. Chris Rodriguez's mother died from that disease.

TEAM NEEDS
Running back, wide receiver, offensive line, edge, defensive tackle, linebacker, cornerback

The Rams have seven starters left from the team that won the Super Bowl just 14 months ago. General manager Les Snead described the team’s “weight-bearing walls” as QB Matt Stafford, who had a spinal cord contusion last year; Cooper Kupp, who finished the year on injured reserve with an ankle injury; and Aaron Donald, who has publicly debated retiring for two offseasons in a row. Beyond those three players, literally every single position on this team needs improvement (that’s what happens when you trade seven first-rounders in a row, including your selection in this year’s draft).

Per Bucky Brooks of nfl.com, these are his NFL Team Positions Ranked/Prioritized from QB to KR/PR.
For easy Draft Needs viewing, I will fill-in IMHO the Solidly-Manned Positions in UPPERCASE,
and lowercase for spots that could use Draft/UFA/UDFA reinforcements.....IMHO.

1. QB....MATTHEW FranchiseQB STAFFORD
2. #1 ER....michael hoecht
3. LT....joe noteboom/alaric jackson
4. LCB....cobie durant
5. WR1....COOPER SBLVIMVP KUPP
6. DT....AARON WeightBearingWall DONALD
7. RB....cam akers
8. #2 ER...keir thomas
9. MLB...ERNEST TacklingMachine JONES
10. TE....TYLER HIGBEE
11. FS..jordan fuller
12. "WEAKSIDE LB" :? .....n/a for RamsD....so, Slot CB, maybe? derion kendrick
13. RT...ROB OlineLeader HAVENSTEIN
14. RCB...robert rochelle
15. RG...COLEMAN TimeToShine! SHELTON
16. WR2...ALLEN TradeBait ROBINSON
17. OC...brian allen
18. SS...quentin lake
19. "STRONGSIDE LB"....n/a for RamsD....so, ILB2?..christian rozenboom
20. LG...logan bruss/alaric jackson
21. NT...BOBBY TimeToShine! BROWN III
22. WR3 VAN GoodPedigree JEFFERSON
23. PK.....vacant
24. P......vacant
25. KR/PR....vacant

So, to my way of thinking, we have TEN SOLID SPOTS IN UPPERCASE (provided AR stays), and some youthful question marks in lowercase (some guys, like our CBs, Safeties, ERs with very limited playing time).

So I look forward to Snead's moves to prioritize topping- up our areas of weakness thru the Draft, Free Agents, and UDFAs. We're only about 45 bodies short of the 90 that most teams carry into Training Camp......but hey, it's only April 3rd!! ;)

I'd like to see Snead prioritize ER, CB, OL, RB, TE.....in pretty much that order.....but if guys fall unexpectedly, we need to also react to BPA opportunities. We also need a backup QB, and a new ST group.
This 2023 Draft, with all our talent attrition these past many weeks, has become kinda uber critical, no? :idea2:

As always, JMO.
