Bremillard, you are focusing on the negatives only. With all due respect, check his stats. Ya, Goff sucked balls today. It happens. It happens to the best of all time. If you dont think he has the ability to be more positive than negative - more a reason we win the the reason we lose, then by all means call for his head. But what’s the alternative? WHO is the alternative? This is beyond QB play, frankly. I know it. A1 knows it. Hell, MCV knows it. This is not a “passing league”. This is not solely a QB driven league. This a game of match ups. All 11 are integral to success in each and every play. Yes, the QB is the field general. But, there are 5 eligible that can screw the pooch on every single play. There are 5 OL who can jointly or severally screw the pooch on every single play.

Goff deserves harsh criticism for his play today. But, on balance, he has demonstrated he can “get er done”.

Consistency from the position and creativity and design from the play caller and game plan creator are both paramount to success.

I am not normally a GOFF SUCKS guy.....
But, this NFL is a hyper-competitive League, and the teams that are relevant Year-in and Year-out, unless you are the 2000 (IIRC) Ravens with Dilfer, are teams that have efficient, productive leaders as their QBs. at the helm. Tom Brady and Russell Wilson come to mind.

Today at SoFi, I thought our D clearly played well enough to get the W ....even against a Offensive Genius, whom I consider Shanahan to be. Staley's D gave up only 16 points......
if a team averages 16 points PPG Allowed all year, then you are the League Leader most seasons as the fewest PPG NFL Team! :idea2:

We lost this game because of sloppy Ram QB play. Our D limited the damage our 4 turnovers cost us....except for SF's PickSix of course.....

BUT, Goff single-handedly turned the ball over to SF 3 times today. That's on a pace for 48 TO's in a 16 game season........clearly worse than even Jameis Winston's awful T/O performance in 2019. :idea2:

So let's not pretend that 3 single-handed turnovers in a single game is small potatoes, okay. :idea2:

AND....
Let's not pretend that Jared Goff's 3 TO's today are some outlier, not-to-be-ever-repeated ONE-OFF!! :x
Goff's sloppiness with Ball Security is not some illusion that anti-Goff fans reach for in the midst of a football debate.
Jared Goff's sloppiness with Ball Security started to recur with some regularity in 2019.....and now we are seeing it re-manifest itself fairly regularly this season. :(
Those of us who happen to notice this reality since 2019, are not selling an illusion, and are NOT anti-Goff!!

NO! NO! WE ARE PRO-RAMS AND PRO-RAM RELEVANCE.....which means Playoffs Participation...

...and if the Football Gods smile upon us.....even Playoff Success! :idea2: :arrow2: :!2:

We lost the Miami game due to Goff Ball Security issues.
Same-same today, to these eyes.
Bringing attention to these observations should not be the cause of feigned umbrage by other Rams fans who dismiss said observations as just Anti-Goff Emotional Reaction.

Even to Stats Guys, the stats indicate that Goff is not an elite NFL QB in 2019-2020. :idea2:
That's the reality! :idea2: .....as unfortunate as that strikes some folks.

As always, JMO.

P.S. Per a Gregg Rosenthal tweet..... Goff's last 4 weeks: 6 picks and 7 fumbles! :shock2: Ouch!

If you think the only two categories for QBs are “elite” and “sucks” you’re in for a lot of disappointment.

So you just started watching football this year?

Yeah...If only we had a Jimmy Garappolo, or Nick Foles, or Matt Ryan, or Eli Manning.

Goff isn’t a top QB.

He’s a good QB who needs help. With the right help, he can make...and even win..a Super Bowl.

Or do you have a better option?

You are not normally a GOFF SUCKS GUY because he's not always the reason we lose.
But you are a ______ sucks guy whenever we lose. <<<<<<<<<( Insert name here ) It's Taylor Rapp or Tyler Higbee or Joe Noteboom or Wade Phillips or Aaron Kromer or Jared Goff. You can damn sure set a clock to it........in your opinion, somebody sucks when we lose. But that doesn't mean you're anti-Goff or anti-Rapp or anti-Noteboom!! NO! NO! YOU ARE PRO-RAMS AND PRO-RAM RELEVANCE!!!!

Seems like just yesterday, I remember one game when the Rams beat Tampa and that Great Leader Tom Brady. Goff had 3 TD passes and 376 yards, on pace for 48 TDs and over 6000 passing yards!!!! (that 6000 would be a record btw!!!) And despite his 2 picks, that performance would have the Rams 16-0 extrapolated over a season!!! :idea2: :idea2: :roll2: Are you serious with the J. Winston comparison????

I didn't see anybody "pretending" that Goff had a good game yesterday. Neither did I see anybody "pretending" Goff lit it up against Miami. But I won't pretend I can't understand how he fumbled that ball in Miami or how he threw the ball to the DE yesterday with a 6'4" 260 lb DE attached to his right ear. I mean I've seen Rodgers and Brady throw touchdown passes in that situation. :roll2: :twisted2:

And no, Goff's stats over 2019-20 do not suggest he's an elite QB. Nobody is trying to sell that illusion based on his Miami & Niner game performances. Nor was anybody trying to sell him as "elite" after the first 7 games of the year, when he had 12 TDs and 4 picks, 1790 yards, while the Rams were 5-2. Good? Absolutely. (Well maybe some were happy with his performance and might have said, 'if he keeps it up we can mention the "e"-word'.)

In yesterday's game, our defense played well enough to win any game on our schedule. They've been that way all year. I love the way they play defense, especially in the 2nd half. But that didn't prevent me from yelling at the TV around 7:10 pm "hey can somebody please cover Deebo Samuel!!!" But because I did that, it doesn't mean I'm blaming that GWFG drive on the defense, despite the FACT he was basically their offense yesterday and he had 3 catches for 35 yards on that last drive. No. I'm just PRO RAMS and PRO RAMS REVELANCE!!!

BTW, not "per Greg Rosenthal", that great leader Tom Brady has 7 picks in his last 4 games (which over 16 games would be just 2 shy of J. Winston's 2019 output :o ) and Tampa is 1-3. But at least he goes to the sideline and screams at his OL or WRs. That shows me he wants to win!!! :shock2: :roll2:

I think it might not be a bad idea to get Wolford some reps with the 1's this week!!! ;) It also might not be a bad idea to let Kevin O'Connell call plays. ;) Or maybe I'll just try to relax a bit, eat this loss and see what they do next week in Arizona. Though I'm sure once Seattle pummels Philadelphia tonight it will increase my angst!!!!

Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay says Jared Goff 'has got to take better care of the football'

Lindsey Thiry
ESPN

INGLEWOOD, Calif. -- Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay didn't mince words after a 23-20 loss to the injury-plagued San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

"Our quarterback has got to take better care of the football," McVay said tersely after the game.

Jared Goff produced three turnovers against the 49ers in what has become a growing trend for the fifth-year quarterback over the past four games.

"We're not taking good enough care of the football and that's something that's got to change, otherwise I'm going to continue to sit up here and say this week in and week out," McVay said. "It just can't continue to happen."

The Rams had a total of four turnovers, including a lost fumble by running back Malcolm Brown on the Rams' opening drive.

Rams fall to 49ers yet again despite Aaron Donald's best efforts

With future uncertain, 49ers gut out win over Rams and stay in playoff hunt
"It comes down to us executing and ultimately myself executing and taking care of the football and throwing it where it needs to be thrown and being smart with it," said Goff, who has four seasons remaining on a $134 million extension that included $110 million guaranteed.

Goff has had three games with multiple turnovers since a Week 8 28-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins, when he threw two interceptions and was strip-sacked twice.

This season, Goff has thrown 10 interceptions and has lost four fumbles. His 14 turnovers rank as the second most in the NFL, tied with Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins, and a spot behind Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, who has 18 turnovers.

"They're all different," Goff said about his giveaways. "At the end of the day, they need to be eliminated. I don't think there's one thing that needs to stop, it just needs to be a little bit smarter with the ball and better decision-making."

McVay didn't hesitate to provide a variety of suggestions to cure Goff's ball-security issues.

"It might be keeping two hands on the ball, it might be that if somebody is swarming around you that you can't just throw it away when you don't see where you're going, being able to trust your guys to separate," McVay said. "But overall, any time that you turn it over as many times as we did and he did, it's just got to be better. He's capable of it, but we just got to be able to get it done."

The Rams' defense produced three turnovers and a touchdown, but it wasn't enough to overcome the offensive woes as Goff completed 19 of 31 passes for 198 yards, with two interceptions. He had a 52.9 passer rating.

In the first quarter, Goff threw a pass directly to 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman, who easily came away with the interception. Then with less than a minute to play in the half, the Rams trailing 7-3, Goff scrambled 3 yards before defensive back Jimmie Ward tackled him and knocked out the ball. And Goff fared no better after halftime, as rookie defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw intercepted a pass and returned it 27 yards to give the 49ers a 14-3 lead.

Goff has had an especially difficult time recently handling pressure, according to ESPN Stats & Information. He has thrown six interceptions under pressure this season -- including Sunday's third-quarter pick, which is tied with Wentz for the most in the NFL.

The defeat drops the Rams to 7-4 and served as their fourth straight loss to Kyle Shanahan and the 49ers, who improved to 5-6.

"We're not going to win many games when we take care of the football like that, so give them credit," McVay said. "But in a lot of instances we didn't do enough to win the football game, I don't care who you're playing."

ME: Goff's turnovers are the worst in the league but for Carson Wentz, who is wretched. Goff is playing horrible football. Watching Goff yesterday was like watching Trubisky against the packers. Almost identical stat lines and ratings. Just horrible.

Oh there are definitely other categories. Plenty of middle tier QBs. But Goff is in the "sucks" category. Check out the ESPN article above. His turnovers are second to only Wentz, who is probably the worst QB in the league right now.

aeneas1 wrote:yep, and he's been the qb for every one of the rams failed drives since he became starter, and since he's played for mcvay, so why have failed drives become much more frequent this season? is it because goff has just sucks?

headed into today's game the rams ranked 25th in the % of combined tds and field goals scored per drive, i.e. 25th in scoring per drive - out of 32 teams, and they'll of course drop even farther once today's numbers are in the books.

even last year, a down year for the offense, the rams ranked 10th in scoring per drive, in 2017 and 2018 they ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively.

so what's going on here? is it just a matter of goff not being very good? seems hard to accept that he's gone from a 2-time pro bowler to bust in 2 short years.

It could be that he has gone from good QB to bust in 2 years. Look at Wentz. He was the elite in the league and now is the worst (with Trubisky). In his case, injuries washed him.

With Goff, Belichek found his kryptonite. Stack the box and bring heavy pressure. Goff can't handle it. Every D Coordinator in this league can copy that. Goff may be on his way out because he can't handle pressure. Kurt Warner on the other hand (no I'm not comparing them) would stay in the pocket, take the most outrageous hits, and deliver fearless strikes that punished D's for their blitz. Goff cannot deliver like this and wilts in the face of pressure. My best guess is that he'll be cut in 2 years.
