I'm in no way saying he's a plug and play replacement for Goff. I do like that he provides not only a good option but just having him on the roster provides leverage for the Rams.

Goff will get paid but having a quality QB on the bench lessons the need to break the bank. I hope Goff gives the Rams a home town discount but having a quality starter behind him should help with negotiations from a Rams perspective.
Bortles is a huge upgrade over Mannion. Not sure about anything else.

Nobody is sure about anything else.

I feel having Bortles to back up Goff is great. Having a proven NFL QB behind Goff doesn't hurt with contract negotiations JMO

Maybe, but I don't think it will have any bearing on Goff's negotiations. Bortles is on a one year deal and I wouldn't imagine any actual threat to replacing Goff. I don't see any leverage over Goff gained by the Rams by having Bortles.

Maybe it means nothing and then again maybe it helps. Bortles is an established veteran who shares the same agent as Goff.

Pretty sure it doesn't hurt. 😎

i dig the fact that the rams have bortles on the bench instead of mannion, night and day difference imo... personally i always thought bortles would break out, always thought he was a much better talent than the level he performed at with the jags, and he almost did break out, threw 35 tds in his second year with the jags, his first year under olsen, as the jags went from dead last in offensive scoring the previous year to 12th, but the wheels fell off the next year and everyone was fired... anyway, if the unthinkable happened and goff got hurt, it would be interesting to see what mcvay could do with bortles, prob is #2 get almost zero time with the #1 once camp is over.

Bortles showed he could be efficient and relatively effective as a QB in a running offense. But he also showed that he couldn't elevate his game and carry the team when the running game got taken away. I've never been a Bortles hater but the Jaguars were right to move on. Bortles may benefit from a change of scenery and more importantly, McVay's tutelage. But I don't see his acquisition as anything more than career rehab and a chance at a starting gig in '20.

Don't all we need out of him is to be a "system" player? I'm joking.

I trust Bortles to mop up late in the 4th quarter once the Rams are leading by 42 points. No sense in keeping Goff in the game in those situations.

When McVay sits his starters against the 49ers and Cardinals because the division is long since clinched, I expect Bortles to light it up, unlike his predecessor "The beaver heaver". Thanks Canuck
