According to Rich Eisen, the Giants were ready to pay Stafford what he wanted, and were also ready to give the Rams what they wanted in trade value. Sounds like Stafford came to his senses and realized he didn't have a better option than the Rams. (cued to the correct time)

Yeah it didn't take long to look at the numbers and money.

45 mil for 28 sacks is about 1.6 mil per sack.
55 mil for 48 sacks is about 1.1 mil per sack.
Besides playoffs and a chance for another Lombardi, the reasoning might have been....."why should I take 1.1 mil per sack if it may mean not playing in 2026, when I could take 1.6 mil AND play in 2026?" :lol2:

And according to Cowherd the Rams were ready to sign a deal. Like, pen in hand. Sounds like we would have gotten the Giants 1st round this year and next. The Raiders were offering their 2nd round pick this year and their 1st next, and both were going to pay Stafford more AND give him more term. It really sounds like the Rams played hardball and were ready for plan B (whatever that might have looked like). Honestly, good for Les, and good for the Staffords for realizing the grass isn't ALWAYS greener.

Listened to Aaron Schatz's podcast yesterday, he said word at the combine was Stafford is all about the money. But, apparently, in the end, wasn't worth it to him to leave LA and the Rams.

I should point out whether it's Eisen, Cowherd or Schatz, they're all just telling us what they were hearing at the combine, what the buzz was, no hard facts. Eisen even gives you a great big disclaimer at the beginning of his 5 things he learned at the combine show...

It is hard to say what is real or not in negotiations. I believe McVay that it was always his intent to get Stafford back. Yes even he was concerned, but thank gawd cooler heads prevailed. Smart for both groups. Hell Stafford could play 2-3 years.
