I think Cooper Kupp jumped the gun on saying the Rams wanted to trade him. They can still bring him back.

My overriding concern wasn't who was going to start at QB this year. My concern as I've posted previously, was my concern was about how long would Sean be the HC. His contract ends after the 2026 season. If the Stafford contract runs through 2026 I'd be concerned that Sean will leave at the same time not wanting to "break in" a new QB and potentially offensive system.

That said I would fully expect them to prioritize an upgrade at RB if both Matt and Sean are expected to be here through 2026. Therefore if they take a QB this year it will probably be a 3rd day pick with the next franchise QB being taken in the 2026 draft. Unless Bennett has improved tremendously, I don't see him as even a viable backup. IMO this preseason will be Stetson's last opportunity to show he can play at this level.

If Stafford's contract is essentially for one year then I think they will prioritize a QB in the first round in this draft and McVay could extend beyond 2026. That is what will interest me most. Not the dollar amount but the structure of the contract.

My view?

Stafford had 3 consecutive come from behind wins in the 2021 postseason including the super bowl, the Rams are 5/2 in the postseason w/ him at qb, and the 2 they lost they were down by just a combined 7 points.

No one else was going to give them that.
