nothing about his claim that the rams roster is a house of cards, or if the rams win it has to be now because it won't be later, or his droning on about goff's super bowl performance, yet not mentioning one word about goff's performance two weeks earlier, on the road, against a future hall of famer.

nope, instead you came away with "Wow. That was a drubbing they gave Goff over there. They basically said Goff sucks." - again, clearly, i misunderstood your point and intent.

Yup. You clearly misunderstood my point. I was making a factual statement. That is what those guys were doing over there. They were beating up the Rams and Goff and I was acknowledging that.

Maybe, next time wait for my opinion or ask me what my opinion is of what they said before you decide what my opinion is on your own.

wait, so you were acknowledging that those guys were beating up on both the rams AND goff when you posted:

do i have that right?

max wrote:I was making a factual statement.

how so? what was factual about your statemt?

the premise of the article was whether or not goff is worth a big contract, and it was clearly on the heels of the topic that was brought up by florio and others... the eagles fan pointed to what he considered to be a big drop off in production by goff at the end of the year as support for his position, while also claiming the usual suspect stuff (system qb stuff, headset nonsense, easy scheme, etc.) - at no time did the blogger write that goff sucks. did you even read it?

Huh? Did you read that article and the comments by those Eagles fans? They were bashing Goff and the Rams. Its a fact that they were verbally beating up the Rams and Goff.

I never said I agreed with them in any fashion. You were saying I did with zero evidence beyond your imagination.

Now, after Goff’s poor performance in the SB, that wasn’t entirely his fault and no worse than Roethlisbergers first SB, Goff is getting bashed by the media. Just so shortsighted.
How was the media treating Ben after that terrible SB performance though? Pretty sure that most were saying he was carried by the rest of the team.

And, I'm sure most Rams fans would not care if that's how Goff looked if the Rams had won. But, when you lose, your bad game gets magnified.

I remember all the talk after that game being about the refs shafting the Seahawks and Hines Ward making that big play. Sure, there was some talk about Ben not looking great, but no one went into the next year thinking he was a question mark.

aeneas1 wrote:it's clownish to complain about an impressive 2-year run as cherrypicking, and then in your next breath try to point to a few games as proof why the run wasn't particularly impressive.

Sorry, but, nothing I said is a "complaint." If a young qb is inconsistent for a long stretch (as many have been in their third year no matter how good they became later) then, saying so is just a simple direct matter of fact.

And pointing out the inconsistent stretch is not in itself the same as drawing a conclusion. That's another step. And as it happens the conclusion I do draw is that he will grow and develop, as many inconsistent 3rd year qbs have before him. He will be better at sustaining his game. He has improved every year of his career, so I just assume that will continue.

But no one is the king of "what you get to say about Goff" so I shouldn't have to say any of this, frankly.

Oh and btw when Max said that one article was really beating up on Goff, I knew exactly what he meant--he was just describing the article (with a bit of surprise that anyone would be that harsh). I didn't read that comment the way you did at all, to the point of being surprised you read it that way...cause there's no basis for it.

You're in the wrong here. Maybe time to back down a bit and call it a day.

keep up will you?

calling those who point to very favorable stats for a 2-year stretch homers and claiming it's an example of cherry-picking, only to then point to negative stats over the course of some games and suggest it's telling, that my friend is a clown show, it's idiocy.

Goff's path as been weird. His overnight rise has skewed expectations I'd say and seeing him struggle down the stretch at times brought back questions about him.

Not sure I'd go so far as to say people think he's a question mark though. Questions but I don't think people wonder if he's going to make it.

One of the dangers of message boards is interpretation. Putting labels on posters often leads to false conclusions.

Did you hear Mike Florio? He said it.

Overnight rise is not the right description.

Goff was a 21 year old rookie in about the worst situation ever. And he looked bad. In his 2nd year he was in a much better situation and looked like a first round pick. Nothing unusual about that.

I’ve seen enough from Goff to expect him to continue to improve and the inconsistency to fade.

I try my best to be unbiased when it comes to players. I supported both the Bradford and Goff picks. I’ve praised and I’ve criticized them both. But what I saw from Goff in the Superdome I never saw from Bradford. That kid is a gamer. Betting against him is a mistake.
