To walk away from a HC gig for a year or two and then come back in the same position is the dumbest thing I've heard of in professional sports.

What if Matt Stafford wanted a one-year sabbatical but wanted to come back in 2024 with an expectation to be the QB#1. We would say you can have your sabbatical or retire but there is no way they can agree to giving him starting position back.

So the Rams agree to McVay's one-year mental health break and lo and behold Raheem takes the "one-year" interim HC gig and leads us to a 13-4 record with home field advantage in the playoffs. We beat the Niners in the NFC Championship game and then beat the Chiefs in the SB with the #3 rated offense and #1 rated defense. The Rams are taking LA by storm and moving into the Dodger and Laker stratosphere and McVay can reclaim his HC gig.

I call BS on that. Leave or stay, but there is no way you can be half pregnant.

Wouldn't that be a nice problem to have.

If they do a sabbatical i'm sure everyone realizes things could change. McVay might decide he really is happier out of it and doesn't want to come back. The Rams might decide they're better off without him.

But more likely it would be a mediocre season and Rams would welcome him back with open arms, maybe even beg...

We just had a mediocre (at best) season with McVay.

If he takes a year off, job is held for him, he comes back and isn't happy (again) - then leaves.

Rams waste all that time for his "time out"?

That is stupid. Love all that he has done for the Rams. Would love him to stay. But if he is not all in, he needs to completely step away and let the Rams move on.

McVay is not the Rams. The Rams are the Rams.

Hearing from Whitworth on the Eisen Show, McVay is extremely tough on himself. AW said he knows he loves coaching.

>>>Maybe he's got a confidence problem. He's given his assistants permission to seek jobs elsewhere. Coen was rumored to be heading back to Kentucky a month ago so he's already gone. But the rest? Suppose nobody gets a HC gig or takes an assistant offer elsewhere in the next month and McVay realizes ain't nobody deserting him? Confidence problem solved? Maybe. Maybe that ain't it at all.

I don't know why this part about McVay allowing his assistants to leave is any news at all. He has always let his assistants leave for better opportunities. It was the right thing to do during a normal off-season and it's the right thing to do now.

Um, who died and made SpongeSeanDitherPants the new Ram Franchise Owner? :?

As I understand it, NFL Teams can block their Contracted Coaches from leaving their Team to go and take a lateral move with another Team. So, if that is correct, then let's take Ram OL Coach Carberry as an example here...

Isn't Carberry under Contract with the LA Rams Football Club, and being paid by Stan Kroenke dollars......and NOT Sean McVay's dollars???

So how is it that Sean McVay gets to allow Ram OL Coach Carberry to take the OL Coaching gig next week with, say...the 49ers??? :?2:

How does that make sense???
....especially as McVay has stated that he may not come back as 2023 Rams HC. :?

What if the Los Angeles Rams want to keep Carberry as their OL Coach for 2023, but he's been told by LameDuck Head Coach McVay that he is free to walk to another NFL Team??

Some weirdness going on in TinselTown IMHO. :|

The way I see it, McVay is telling all the assistant coaches that if he stays he’s cleaning house. And if he leaves they’ll probably get dumped by the new HC.

Let’s be honest here, this thing is a mess. You’ve got to be a complete idiot to believe it’s much ado about nothing. I’m just waiting for another quiz by our resident complete idiot. :lol2:

That sure is the way it looks. A lot of smoke there / everywhere. Not a stable situation.

The assistant coaches were somewhat underwhelming in '22.
McVay’s staff has been getting poached so often it's understandable that his AC's were watered down. Perhaps a complete coaching turnover is warranted.

Just a thought. Could McVay have lost the coaches room as the season imploded? (Players too?)
It's probably more of a signal he's cutting out and letting the coaching staff get a head start, but it could have been an adios. The former might explain that lost look.
