aeneas1 wrote:based on what? have you taken a look at the list of games he's crewed through the years? the games he's crewed this year? have you compared it to other crews? this info is publicly available.

what exactly does that mean? this year he crewed:

cards vs bears
falcons vs panthers
lions vs jets
packers vs bills
texans vs colts (twice, each team won once)
chiefs vs bengals
rams vs eagles
vikings vs packers
saints vs panthers
saints vs rams
giants vs redskins
steelers vs chargers
seahawks vs chiefs
titans vs patriots

told by who? you watched the game, right?

the rams secondary was flagged twice, both on peters in the 1st quarter.
- 0-0 score, on a 12-yard completed pass, defensive holding, penalty was declined.
- 0-7 score, on a 7-yard completed pass, pass interference.

the saints secondary was flagged once, on apple in the 2nd quarter:
- 7-14 score, 2nd and 6 incomplete pass, gave rams automatic 1st down.

so where's the big discrepancy?

all told, the rams were penalized 4 times for 32 yards, the saints 2 times for 20 yards, none came close to looking like game changers.

re the hekker spot, the score was 14-14 with 13:14 remaining in the 2nd quarter, the rams were on the saints 16, they didn't get the spot (of course they could have kicked a field goal and gone up 17-14)... the saints took over on their own 13 yard line and marched 87 yards for a td... that td was on the ref crew, not the rams defense, right?

He marked Hekker a yard short. It stalled a drive. McVay even challenged it. He was clearly over the line but he wouldn't reverse the call. The ball doesn't go where the knee touches. It goes where the ball is when the knee touches. It only takes a few calls to turn a game. It gave the Saints a chance to get ahead with good position on the field, and gain momentum.
And yes I have watched every Rams game since 2005. But that is one game that I didn't watch a second time. I'd have to watch it again but I trust the person who said it.

And I don't know how he refs for other teams. I don't watch all of the other games. I must be onto something though because there is a petition that people are signing to have him switched to the other game. So, it's not just me. And no, it wasn't started on the ROD board. So there seems to be a few other Rams fans concerned with this assignment. It's up to 656 the last time I looked.

The Rams are 0-8 in games that Vinovich has officiated. In that time span they were a .500 team. In all of those games, he never once penalized the other team more than he penalized the Rams. Suspicious if you ask me.

Unfortunately, for me to remember each call I would have to go back and watch those games, which I won't do to appease you. Another thing I won't be doing is betting on the Rams to win this game, with Vinovich as the ref.

Basically says a 3 point underdog wins 45.5% of the time.
3.5 point underdog wins 38.4%.

3 point underdogs are 2-6 in the championship game since 1990, both played at home.
3.5 point underdogs are 2-3, one win came at home, the other on the road.

3 points and a 17-14 lead were there for the taking. instead the rams gambled and came away with 0 points - the gamble was calculated, if they failed it was still early in a 14-14 game and the saints would get the ball deep in their own territory. of course the rams defense folded like a cheap suit and let the saints drive 87 yards for a td and a 21-14 lead. but that was the ref's fault?

Elmgrovegnome wrote:I must be onto something though because there is a petition that people are signing to have him switched to the other game.

it's a petition started by a rams fan, you know that, right? at a site where anyone can start any kind of petition, for example a petition asking obama to build a death star, a petition asking to abolish the word ma'am, google it.

not true, bad info started by a guy at cbs sports - rams are 2-10 in games vinovich crewed, the far majority when the rams sucked.

not hard to check the games vinovich has crewed over the years, it's publicly available, of course it's not easy as just thinking it's fixed, i'll give you that.

question: do you ever remember a year when the refs favored the rams? question 2: do you think any fanbase remembers a year when the refs favored their team?

I’m in favor of Rams fans making as much noise as possible about the Ref crew. Not because I think they are biased, or because I think they’ve deliberately swung the outcomes of games in the past, but because it might cause them to overcompensate in our favor.

Coaches (in the NFL and, even more so, the NBA) work the refs all the time to try to influence their calls (or non calls). If ROD or anyone else wants to try to do the same, I doubt it will work, but it’s worth a shot I suppose.

Hopefully, on Monday, the refs won’t be a topic of discussion for either fan base.

I don't bet on the Rams to win or lose a single game due to the fact that I don't want a financial stake in the game as my emotional stake is great enough.

That said thinking that the NFL will allow a person to referee a game that has a hate against a team or one who would favor one team over another to determine the outcome frankly reeks of Haroldjackson29 BS.

exactly, and here's the thing:

each officiating crew is made up of 7 guys, from all walks of life - commercial airline pilots, cpa's, teachers, attorneys, consultants, claims adjusters, plant managers, engineers, financial advisors, corporate executives, college professors, administrators, law enforcement and even federal agents, the list goes on and on.

guys with careers, reputations, families, kids, guys who have entire lives outside of nfl football.

yet we're supposed to believe that crooked crews are rampant, crews that intentionally ensure one team wins and the other loses, 7 guys who are either on the take, or willing to keep their mouths shut, 7 guys who are prepared to risk everything, and not a single soul among them with enough character to stand up and expose the fraud.

honestly, some people watch too many movies.

Saints are 2-9 against the spread as home favorites in playoffs. 0-6 ATS at home in playoffs when favored by less than a TD...

I like it. 8-)

That's the only way to look at it. Worrying about refs, the dome, road game, etc...that's McVay's gig, I'll just sit back and trust the man.
