fandom is such a weird thing... i'm a rams fan because i dug the hell out of their helmets when i was around 10 years old, when i first saw them play on tv, it was against the vikings and my twin brother dug the purple, and the "purple people eaters" moniker, so he went with them, we were living in mexico city at the time and had zero connection with l.a. or minnesota, but we've been lifelong fans ever since... same with the pittsburgh pirates, i have zero connection with pitt or penn, but when i was a kid living in mexico city roberto clemente was a god, he was the guy we all pretended to be in little league, and when my family was transferred to puerto rico after mexico city, it just cemented the deal, and i've been a lifelong buccos fan ever since.

No kidding A1, my experience is similar. My mother had remarried my step dad and as a family we went for Christmas to Cleveland. I had never watched football before and my first game ever was the Rams and Vikes. I asked my grandfather who are we pulling for and he said the Rams we are always Rams fans. Him still liking his former team even though they had move, I ironically have had the opportunity to do the same. So anyway is cool that a Rams Vikes games has been the start.

ha ha, that's awesome! yeah, when the rams pulled up stakes and moved to st. louis it didn't phase me at all in terms of my fandom, there was never a question if i would still follow them or if i would feel a sense of abandonment, they could have set up shop in kazakhstan and i wouldn't have missed a beat.

So true my friend and so agree :) I do find I do however have to give my grandfather a thumbs up for his patience that day and game. It was not the questions of what does that whistle mean or what is a first down.

It was that I was still ten years away yet from finding out when I went in the service I was color blind. I am red green color blind so purple to me is blue. So I was asking more than a few times which of these two teams is the Rams cause to me all I saw was two teams wearing blue and yellow both with horns on their helmets.....LOL

RRF was anything but "real" Rams fans as a site. There were many individuals who were Rams fans through and through but the site was very much "St. Louis" fans. Instead of welcoming the traveling vagabonds of fans, there was a very "we don't need(want?) you" from the St. Louis contingent. More than one fan that I argued with at times proudly proclaimed that they couldn't care less about the Rams, they were just rooting for their city.

I was suspended from RRF on more than one occasion and thankfully, someone pointed me to this site. I was not on suspension at the time but I still chose to walk away from RRF and never looked back. It wasn't the worst site but it had plenty of flaws. Enough that I don't miss it.

Never had a "second" favorite team. Just could root for anyone else with the same passion as I do for the Rams. I culdn't even force it. lol Through all those losing seasons, I tried to have a second favorite team but it just wasn't the same.

I tried also when they left LA. It last all but a few games into their first season in St Louis. Just couldn't get into any other team and really didn't try. Found myself still scrambling for Rams news.

I discovered so much of my attachment didn't come from Rams of today, but Rams of yesterday. Those feelings I had as a kid excited to se those names we can never forget. Hadl, Jackson, McCutcheon, Elmendorf, Youngblood(Jack and Jim), Reynolds, Saul, Slater, etc...........

Oh how glorious to be a fan of the Rams.

I've often wondered what made me into a Rams fan. It wasn't friends or family because my mom never watched football and my dad was a Cowboys fan.

Actually, it's hard for me to remember what got me into football in the first place. It must have been my dad but I don't recall ever watching games with him or going to a game at all. Not when I was young. I do remember reading all I could find. Biographies about Bart Starr, Johnny Unitas, Joe Namath, the fictional "Rookie" book about a Rams QB, etc.

As far back as I can remember though, I was a Rams fan and it must have been the way they looked.

For some reason, Hacksaw personifies the ex-Rams who became 49ers to me. I guess it isn't unusual for division foes to pilfer each other's rosters due to familiarity but this was the days before free agency became what it is and to me, it seemed like too many Rams went on to have better days as 49ers.

Wendell Tyler, Hacksaw Reynolds, Kevin Greene...oh, how I hated the 49ers even more for "stealing" our guys.

I remember Kevin Greene going to the Steelers. If he played for SF it must have not been long or memorable.

Along with Bettis those two moves to the Steelers were tough ones to take for sure.

Hacksaw going the 49s was a harder one to take for sure. He was a living legend leaving for the biggest rival.

I recall Greene playing for Carolina after the Steelers
