That's not the rule anymore. You can't block an assistant from becoming a HC but you can block anything else.

But McVay isn't like that. He's about empowering people, that's his whole thing.

So if LaFleur got an opportunity to call plays to be the true OC and he wanted it, i'm pretty sure McVay would let him go. But he wouldn't have to...

Olson was promoted from QB coach to OC. Rams couldn’t block it.

This keeps coming up but the rules have changed, several years ago.

Teams can block any move except to HC.

If a team wants your OL coach for OC you can say no. There is nothing about lateral moves in the rules anymore. It's HC or nothing...

in schottie's defense he was given a lot of qb stiffs to work with, wilson will be by far the best qb he's worked outside of favre... schott's oc resume:
