Streaming if it's REAL HD is cool, like I mentioned earlier, and someone else also mentioned it, a DVR or on demand stream is a must for me.

honestly, i just don't get the kodi love in terms of streaming pirated movie/tv content, so much of the content the addons provide is just plain crap as far as pq and audio is concerned, and so many of the addons, or parts of the addons, flat out don't work a lot of the time... you can pay, wow what a surprise, to have some addons connect to more reliable servers, but who wants to that? that said, pretty much all of the crap looks fine on phones, even tablets, but if you're hoping to get a bunch of great quality content that displays well on big tvs or projectors, you're in for a lot hunting, there are some out there, but you have to do a lot of weeding, and can't trust the stated quality, at least that's been my experience... what i do like about kodi is using it as a front-end for my ripped movie collection, the movie poster eye candy, search ability, movie/actor info, great stuff, especially if you can mod it to your liking!

Don't shoot me, because clearly I'm part of the problem, but I don't mind paying for NFL Ticket, Direct TV, Netflix etc. I think they are all quality products and I feel I get my monies worth.
That said, I did swing the NFL ticket for free the last 2 years with the old cancel my service ploy...
Still and all, $300 to watch my Rams play in incredible High Def is cheaper than going to 1 Giants game live.

I'm with ya. I had Sunday ticket for like, 15 years. This last season was my first without. Now I get to go to all the home games and the away games are all televised!!...at least for now... But yeah, I have no probs paying for a quality product.

i haven't gone the 4k player route yet, in fact i haven't used a dvd player in ages, not since i ripped my dvd collection to nas quite a few years ago, just so much more convenient for my needs to stream movies from a nas than fiddle with a player, plus i was able to donate the tonnage of dvds i owned to the local library.

but i may have to take the player plunge again, don't really relish ripping 60gb 4k discs to my server, yikes, but we'll see... so what 4k player are you using? i was on an oppo kick when i used a dvd player, went through a few of their model upgrades over the years, very, very impressive equipment, awesome support including easy firmware updates, the packaging alone would knock your socks off, but i don't think i want to drop $600 for their 4k player, looks like there are a lot of good ones out there for a third of the price.

re streaming 4k hdr content, i have my network hardwired, i don't use wifi for streaming, and i haven't seen the pixelation or stutters you mention, it has looked absolutely awesome to me, then again i haven't compared it to a 4k player, but i can't imagine streaming would top it given bandwidth and bit rate hurdles/caps... speaking of bit rate, i noticed that a lot of folks have complained about the much lower bit rates on some 4k bluray releases vs others, one of the websites that tracks dvd/bluray (release dates, reviews, library search, etc.) that i came across had a nice 4k bluray bit rate comparison... do you know the bit rates of your 4k bluray discs and can you tell the difference in pq between those with much higher bit rates vs those with much lower rates?

anyway, i always have to chuckle whenever i turn my attention to today's electronics, my parents' heads would have exploded if decades ago they were faced with the same spec options/decisions, hookup options/decisions, required reading/research, just to pick out and enjoy a tv, ha ha....

I'm not in the 4K world yet. Waiting until 4K sports broadcasts start to pop up. But my friend bought a Sony x930e (2017 model TV) and he hooked it up to a Sony 4K x800 player ($270).

I watched 30 minutes of The Revenant at his house and my jaw dropped. That's when I knew 4K HDR was a real thing.

i think most are with you, at least i know i am...

i splurged at the start of last season, took my 21-year-old son to the first game of the season, rams @ niners, spent close to $1k, awesome 50 yard-line seats about 10 rows up were about $350 a pop, parking was another $100 or so iirc, a bunch of food and drinks... the day was always going to be much more about doing something different, special, with my son than watching a football game, so have zero complaints, but it was a great reminder of how outrageously expensive nfl games can be for a family, and a reminder of why i really don't miss going to live games...

point is, i have no prob shelling out for nfl tv, the u.s. sunday ticket price works out to about $18 per game, assuming you just watch one game per week, not sure how you can beat that, especially if you pair it with a nice panel... and as i mentioned, it's about $9 per game if you go the international subscription route (but it won't be broadcast via your directv dish).

i'm also a netflix subscriber, ditched the dvd plan years ago, an amazon prime subscriber, and some other stuff, really dig it... weird thing tho, i find it almost impossible to watch live broadcast tv now, which i only do when i visit the folks, sitting through commercials is a major drag, and the notion of planning your day/week to catch the next episode of whatever just seems so foreign to me now....

being an early adopter can be frustrating and expensive, but at the price of the tcl 55" p series ($599 plus free shipping when i bought it) it makes it pretty painless, i don't feel bad about taking an early plunge... once the tech becomes more mainstream, and much more content is available, i'll get an oled, but i don't want to go that route now....

The sweet spot for 4K is 2-3 years from now. OLED's will cost as much as your TCL.
