I know it was just satire. But Teddy Bridgewater would be a nice backup for Stafford. He doesn't make many splash plays but he's a steady performer who can hold it down for a couple games if need be. He's currently a UFA. If he wants to keep playing there will be a market for him.

definitely an unknown to ponder.... Sports writers, AI-bots, and us fans can guess and tell each other they are wrong

The NFC East is one of the four divisions in the National Football Conference (NFC) of the NFL. It consists of the following teams:

Dallas Cowboys (est. 1960)
Philadelphia Eagles (est. 1933)
New York Giants (est. 1925)
Washington Commanders (est. 1932, formerly Redskins & Football Team)

As of February 23, 2025, the quarterback situations for the NFC East teams are as follows:

Dallas Cowboys: Dak Prescott remains the starting quarterback, demonstrating consistent performance over recent seasons. Backing him up are Cooper Rush and Trey Lance, providing depth and experience. Given Prescott's stability and the team's confidence in their current roster, the Cowboys are unlikely to pursue a trade for Matthew Stafford. Acquiring Stafford would necessitate significant financial and draft capital commitments, which may not align with the Cowboys' strategic plans.

New York Giants: The Giants face uncertainty at the quarterback position, with no quarterbacks currently under contract for the 2025 season. They hold the No. 3 overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, positioning them to select a top quarterback prospect. Alternatively, the Giants have been linked to trade discussions for Matthew Stafford, as the Los Angeles Rams have granted him permission to explore trade options. Acquiring Stafford could provide an immediate solution, allowing the Giants to use their high draft pick to address other needs. However, the financial implications of Stafford's contract and the assets required for the trade are significant considerations. Stafford's current salary-cap figure for 2025 is $49.6 million, and trading him after June 1 could save the Rams up to $27 million. The Giants would need to negotiate a contract that fits within their cap space while offering the Rams valuable assets, potentially including high draft picks.

Philadelphia Eagles: Jalen Hurts continues to lead the Eagles' offense as the starting quarterback, having secured multiple Super Bowl victories. The team has a reliable backup in place, ensuring depth at the position. Given Hurts' success and the team's investment in his development, the Eagles are unlikely to pursue a trade for Matthew Stafford. Introducing Stafford would disrupt the established system and require significant financial and draft resources, which the Eagles may prefer to allocate elsewhere.

Washington Commanders: Jayden Daniels had an impressive rookie season, solidifying his role as the starting quarterback. The team is expected to retain a competent backup to support Daniels. With a promising young quarterback already in place, the Commanders are unlikely to trade for Matthew Stafford. Such a move would not align with their long-term development plans and would involve substantial financial and asset commitments.

In summary, while the New York Giants might consider acquiring Matthew Stafford to address their quarterback vacancy, the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, and Washington Commanders are expected to maintain their current quarterback rosters, focusing on stability and development within their existing frameworks.

How could the author of this article possibly think the Giants would get Stafford AND keep that #3 pick? If, and it's a GIANT IF (see what I did there?), Stafford went to NY, that #3 is coming to LA.

However it goes down, a trade with anyone or no trade at all, it will be GIANT news.

But you bring up a great point that nobody has talked about ... the market value of trading for a franchise QB.

To get Deshaun Watson, Cleveland's gave up the 2022 first and fourth round selections, the 2023 first and third round selections, and the 2024 first and fourth round selections.

To get Russell Wilson, the Broncos traded two first-round picks, two second-round picks, a fifth-round pick, tight end Noah Fant, quarterback Drew Lock, and defensive end Shelby Harris.

If history is any indication of what the Rams should fleece the Giants for, I agree that the Rams should get their #3 and then some.

This article misses the point by a big margin.

There's really only one team in the NFC East that has a need for Stafford. The Giants are the only team that can pull off a move like this.

That being said, Stafford will remain with the Rams next year.

Silly season for sure but to write an article about a Division and basically eliminate every team except one is piss poor writing skills. JMO

It will take the #3 pick and then some. The Rams can’t possibly trade him for less than over compensation. Because they will likely be taking a GIANT step backward without Stafford. That has a serious price if I am in the Rams’ front office.

A hear-say source that I respect (Peter Schrager), said that NY won't give up their #3 for Stafford.

I absolutely want Stafford to remain a Ram, but at 37 years old he needs to realize the Rams aren't going to pay him $50 million a year. A bit too old and presumably on the downhill slide.

The Rams do have a Super Bowl window they're in and I would think he wants to cement his way to Canton and another Championship would certainly do that. He's comfortable and by most observations he and the family love LA.

It's time for him and his agent to get locked into a room with Snead and Pastoors and come up with a contract that recognizes his value to the team while balancing his age, possible decline in performance, the open SB window and the need to spread scarce salary cap dollars into a roster that needs some help.

It can be done, but the longer he and his agent fail to agree to a Ram contract it seems more and more likely he will be dealt. Do I want him to be a Ram?....yes. Do I think the Rams should mortgage the present and future to sign him at any cost?...no.

I believe McVay is the best NFL coach in the league and if he thinks he can get it done with Jimmy G. or Aaron Rogers I am on board and ready to roll. Would love for it to be Stafford, but if not I'm ready to roll with McVay.

From what I can see, MS doesn't want to leave,

He just bought a home more than a few years ago and has his kids in school.

MS has two years left on his contract at 50mil for each year.

That being said, it all comes down to getting guaranteed money.

I foresee the RAMs and MS agreeing on guaranteed money for this year,

then renegotiate for the final year at that time frame for more guaranteed money.
