Was that because he wouldn't take what we were given because he wanted to pass?

I think when he has a bad game....Cincy wasn't the first one......it's because he's got blinders on. Goes into a game with a gameplan the opposition is expecting and doesn't adjust. Pretty clear the pass was huge in his game plan and despite the failure there and what looked like success in the run game, he kept banging his head against the wall.

Don't get me wrong....I don't pretend to be smarter than McVay.......I'm just asking, 'is that what it is?'.

I don't pretend to be smarter than McVay either,
But the stats I listed shows,
there was an unbalance on the play calling.

We had a first down on the 3yd line early in the game,
and the D gets a sack on that play on a passing play.
Why not run it on first down being so close to the goal line?
Our OL was pushing pretty good against their DL on that drive.
Here is a pic below,
if Staff would of handed it off to Williams instead of going back for a pass,
He could of followed Puka on the right side for a TD.

you mention: Was that because they were defending against the pass?

Actually on certain plays, there were key plays the D was showing six in the box,
where I felt we should of run the ball on short yardages.
Instead, they tried to pass the ball, looking down field and nothing was there,
So Staff had to use his outlet and he was off throwing to Williams,
or Williams would drop it.
And those were usually the D with six in the box.
I'm like, just run it and get the first down.

Personally I think he saw that Miami game,
and he wanted to show his offensive team can do that too.
The problem, Staff wasn't on target as he was his first two games.
But McVay still kept on trying to push the ball down field.
I just think he got pass happy,
and wanted to show what he could do against them with his passing game.

Then at the end of the game, with the clock running,
he calls a running play near the goal line, keeping the clock running.
Just a bad game he called. He was too pass happy IMO
That game, we should of won, IMO
I felt we had the better team,
His play calling did us in.
Especially in the second half, not putting Noteboom at LT, and Anchrum at RG
He put Thomas at LT with no TE helping to chip. If not for those two penalties,
their DE/Hendrickson would of had 4 sacks.

But I bet you, the next game, you will see a more balance game.
Cause after reviewing the tape, McVay is going to know he F'ed up.

I'd rather go to Battle with Stafford than Minchew or Richardson. Advantage #1 Rams.

A. Richardson hasn’t gone deep and doesn’t throw outside the numbers unless he’s booting to that side. That should give the Rams the advantage as they will sell out on stopping the run and not worry as much about deep outs and 7, 8, and 9 routes.

On O I wonder if MCV has lost faith/trust in the run game. He will need to run, screen, jet, and boot away from the rush as Indy in no joke there. OL health will be critical as Will playing as close to mistake free ball they can play.

B. This is also a preview of the Philly offense but with a QB who is not nearly as accomplished as Hurts. But same basic design. So there’s that.

I’m trying to not have high hopes for this one as that turd on Monday as well as A Ajax’s availability has me concerned

I wholeheartedly agree with your previous post and this one. Unbalanced? Absolutely. Success running? Small sample size. :D

In the first half we ran 8 times for 52 yards. 22 was by Atwell and 4 by VJ. Williams ran 6 times for 26 (4.5 ypc). We dropped back 17 times (more than double the rush attempts) and for our troubles, got sacked twice and threw a pick. How does the game change if the refs don't screw us on the 24 yard TD run by Atwell?

I agree he may have an idea, he's got to win with the pass.....

However I remember a 49ers game back in 2019 when we ran the ball exclusively on our first possession, 7 runs, 56 yds, TD...7-0 Rams, 8.0 per attempt . Malcolm Brown, 9 yards, 10, 7, 9, Woods 8, Brown 5, Woods 8 (TD). Why the success? Gurley was on the sideline in street clothes. Were the niners expecting pass or were we just really good running the ball? On the next series, we ran on 1st for -1, then passed for 5, got sacked and JN was injured for the season. It all went down hill from there.

Sometimes I believe McVay gets those blinders on. But in his defense, passing is where he makes his money.

Previous to that week 6, 2019 game I referenced, over the first 5 weeks we ran 115 times for 481 yards (4.2) with 8 TDs and passed 222 times (140 comp) for 1597 yds. The offense scored 138 points (27.6 PPG). And yet on our first posssession we set the tone on the ground. I don't think SF was ready for that with Gurley out. But that's the kind of genius McVay pulls sometimes. Unfortunately, he pulls some really dumb shit every now and then, too (blinders?). I can live with it......

What I am hearing is that Alaric will play. Hopefully, Note and himself can play the whole game.

Like MJD mentioned on in the Between the Horns pod, sometimes you just need to run it, even with stacked boxes. From what I understand the Rams have yet to run Kyren in a stacked box. Also Staff and Kyren need to get on the same page in the checkdown/screen pass stuff.
Clearly Staff wasnt as sharp as the first two games and was significantly rattled once the pass rush started getting home.

Again I want to see more physical football and pass off of that, we got the line to move guys, DO IT. The game is going to be huge for the o-line, they held their own against SF, they need to do the same against Indy.

This is a must win. I know we got no shot at beating the Eagles next Sunday, so if we lose to the Colts, this Sunday, we can say we will be on a 4 game losing streak, after October 8.

Jake Ellenbogen “gut feeling” is Rams are trading for Johnathan Taylor. Rams need to fine a way. It to have staff drop back more than 60% of the time. Too easy to tee off. And OL need to get healthier. Probably better when more reps are going forward.

Looking at the stats via ESPN.

Indy is second in the league with 12 sacks (gulp), however Indy defense is allowing 250.7 passing yards per game, 10th in the league. Colts rank 4th in run stop win so i could see McVay getting pass happy in this one as well. Who knows maybe he zags when they are expecting him to zig. I really want to see Ronnie Rivers get some carries, he showed up in TC, maybe focus Kyren more in the passing game....

Rams road games are 7-1-1 to the under since the start of last seaso. Indy has lost 6 straight at home.
