I also think we should go one more year with Goff and build him a top notch offensive (interior) line. Hopefully Whit can squeeze 1 more season out. That and a 50-50 ball catching take the top of a D receiver . If that doesn't work then scrap heap.

I get it Hacksaw. I guess my answer would be that I wouldn't get rid of Goff at all but if I did move him, I STILL would want the OL fixed first to help our run game, deep passing game and other issues too. If Goff still under performed with a revamped OL, then I would consider moving on.

I have no issue bringing in some competition at the QB position...I just don't know who that would be.

I'd think if we really were moving on from Goff, McVay would want a vet similar to Goff but more to his liking. Maybe Cousins, Stafford, Ryan, someone like that who could theoretically step in day one and run the offense at a high level.

Any rookie would take some developing and i'd think McVay (and the Rams) would want immediate returns if they made a change...

But that $6.5M cap hit is very attractive.

Again, I doubt this happens.

The Texans are currently on the books for $16 million next season for Watson. His salary jumps to $40 million after that. They would have to let J.J.Watt go or Brandon Cooks just to absorb a $34 million Goff for next season. Of course moving forward they save money later.

Definitely would have to include draft picks to compensate the talent of Watson and the cap casualties created.

One more time for those paying attention, I don't see this happening. Way too many moving parts.

However, if the Texans have to move Watson, the Rams are a team they could get maximum value from with a smaller cap hit.

The Rams on the other hand would save cap money (About $10 million. Counting the cap hit on Goff trade and less salary for Watson).

Easily absorbed if the cap increases in the future.

It really comes down to if the Texans feel they have no other option.

Realistically what trade value does anyone think Goff has? We had to cut Gurley but we're gonna get something big in return for Goff? I don't see it happening.

True.

However, if you find a team in a similar situation (Texans) the odds increase.

The Rams had very little options with trading Gurley(Age/Mileage) or his contract(Huge). The Texans are backed into a corner with the cap hit and Watson's no trade clause. JMO

Agreed.

This thread has flushed out some harsh reality.

Had enough of mediocre (or at least not expensive #1 pick) Goff so let's give him one more year with a better O-line to produce. if he doesn't then adios.

First off,,,

Since this is about a trade,,,

What source are we getting a 6.5mil cap hit from???

I'm not the expert when it comes to salary/cap hit...

But I was looking at both Spotrac & OTC,,,

Only OTC shows a cap hit with a trade after June 1st at 12.45mil. for Goff...

Watson cap hit for Houston on a trade would be 5.6mil...

Second,,,

A trade after Jun 1st wouldn't be a smart move...

Missing all of the off training and OTAs...

That would be a record for disaster...

It would be a better move to sure up our OL/Center/Guard and find a WR that can take the top off... JMO...

My numbers are from over the cap.

Not sure if they're accurate but it is a somewhat reliable source.
