Ramsdude wrote:Agreed. That would have been horrible to not have my Rams for 20 years! The only positive I can think would come from that would be that the NFL would have tried to bring the Rams back to life in L.A.. But who would've paid for the stadium? L.A. wasn't going to do that.

I think it all worked out ok. The Rams won a SuperBowl and are now back in L.A..

The only issue right now is the neutered horn on the helmet, the STOLEN ASU logo, the distancing from Rams tradition and XFL looking uni's! Nothing to complain about really...oh wait... :lol2:
What's often forgotten or not realized is that because of the lease arrangements that the Coliseum held over LA, there really wasn't a viable time for the NFL to return to LA until the Rams actually did it.

It isn't a coincidence that 2016 is when that happened. It's right after the Coliseum's exclusivity contract ran out with the city. That situation is primarily why the Rams and Raiders both left LA and why no one else swooped in to the 2nd largest media market and doubled(or more) the value of their franchise.

If we're gonna root for magical/hypothetical things, why not the Rams stay in L.A. and St. Louis gets a team another way?

We can do this a 100 ways. But yes, I would have preferred the St. Louis Stallion and the Rams staying in LA . I also think that if Georgia had been forced and the Rams name was "parked and waiting" that you would have gotten the Rams back sooner. See the Winnipeg Jets in hockey.

I called a local sports shop as my Blues masks are now on 6 week backorder. While on the phone I asked about the new Rams jerseys and they said don't expect them this year in store as supply will be limited to California and the big national chains like Macys or Dicks.

you have to wonder if l.a. did what cleveland did (managed to to keep the rams name and history and force georgia to rename the club when she moved it to st. louis), if a new stadium would have been built in l.a. for the rams in 3 years by a new ownership group, i.e. if things might have gone down as they did for the browns? given a choice at the time, would l.a. rams fans have rather gone without football for 3 years in exchange for having a new stadium built and keeping the rams, or seeing the rams play for those 3 years but at a now home for the next 20 years? of course there are no guarantees that things would have played out for the rams as they did in cleveland, especially given fan interest in the rams at the time.

As I said, the Coliseum would have prevented the Rams getting a new stadium in '97 unless they were out on the perimeter somewhere. So the hypothetical question would be would the fans want the Rams back and stuck in the Coliseum?

It would interesting to know what Kroenke's original intentions were. When they moved to St. Louis did he already have the foresight to think that one day he would own a majority interest in the Rams with the idea of building a grand stadium in LA and move the team back?

I remember hearing rumors of the Rams moving back the moment Kroenke owned the team outright.

With that in mind, what if the name Rams and colors would have remained in LA, would Kroenke have bypassed buying in on the Rams with Madam Ram and just waited his time then get an expansion team, name them Rams, and built his palace then?

I guess those are questions we'll never know.

Not sure what the details of the Coliseum's rights were but Inglewood isn't L.A.

I hate pointing this out but, Madden got the horns right...or at least better.
