rams74 wrote:Kurt Warner was great at this. His Cardinals' O-lines were in the bloody awful category. He masked virtually all their problems (with the exception of when they would knock the ball out of his hands or step on his feet).

Disagree with some of that. The ARZ OL with Kurt could play a quick passing game effectively and was good at it. It was a good mesh of what the OL could do and what the qb was capable of. He could get it out quickly and the OL handled that kind of game just fine.
When Kurt played with beat up lines his play descended just like everyone else's does. I am thinking of Rams 2002 and Giants 2004. Both teams had OL issues those years and both were rough years with him.

In terms of people judging Goff, I have different criteria. I don't care about the early INT, he bounced back from that. He was pressing early but settled down. To me it's important that he was clutch at the end. To me, being clutch when it counts weighs heavily. And he found his long ball again.

Protection issues don't work this way--if he was protected on play X he should produce. Game after game of high pressure messes with the qb and that is not cured automatically. You could see it took him a bit to settle in and trust what was happening. The INT and near INT came from pressing, which is a symptom of a qb trying to compensate for the OL...something he found during the game he did not have to do. He started letting the game come to him.

The Goff I saw against Chicago was rough around the edges but good in the clutch at the end. He went against a defense that is 4th in points and 10th against the pass, a defense that unraveled him last year, and produced...and engineered a very good clutch "put the game away" drive.

This was the drive that put the game away. Obviously at this point they opened things up and he produced, including a key 3rd down.

Huh? The Cardinals' OL handled the quick passing game ONLY because Kurt got the ball out of his hand before the rush could get to him. That was no credit to the OL. It was all Kurt. Look no further than the fans' consistent and loud criticism of the OL coach, the great Russ Grimm, who couldn't "coach up" Levi Brown. Lyle Sendlein was pretty good at times. Other than that, that O-line was a total mess.

I agree with this. Goff threw 2 nice touchdowns that got called back, and he got the job done, anyway. Doesn't mean he hasn't been pressing.

Agree that Goff is a good QB and definitely had good moments in clutch situations.

I don’t think anyone thinks 2019 Goff is = 2018 Goff. A lot think the difference is in OL play. That being the case, Goff needs to improve when he is pressured and needs to work on a quick, safe, out when pressured.

Whether in public or private he needs to own up to this and work on this. Nobody had acknowledged this or appear to work on this. If this changes, I’d feel a lot better about our QB.

Hope it’s all being worked out in private.

On the other hand, the Rams' players still appear to be united, in public at least. Nobody has broken out and criticized, or blamed, any specific players or coaches. And that includes Goff. He hasn't been critical of anybody. He could complain about the line plenty, even if just the penalties. He hasn't.

It seems to me it's still a tight locker room, which is a hopeful sign that everybody's on the same page, and everybody's taking responsibility for their own stuff. I see no reason to think otherwise.

I guess that’s my point. I don’t want this to become a blame game or need anyone to call anyone out.

But you can’t just be like... okay OL work out your issues, no blame. But then not plan for and practice with serious and constant QB pressures.

This is a weakness and a known weakness by every opponent at this point. Let’s turn it into a strength.

Guy threw a few duds and deserved a pick 6, not sure what the hell he was doing on the pass that was intercepted.

He's also not catching ANY breaks this year. The Thomas drop was his best throw of the night. Above coverage in perfect spot. Kupp steps out at the one taking away a TD pass. Some bs penalty wiped away a 53 yard TD pass to Reynolds.

He needs to stop making idiotic passes though.

Yes, it was. Thanks for bringing that up. I'm not entirely sure what to make of that drop. My initial reaction is that this is typical Michael Thomas -- and the main reason he hasn't seen more of the field as a WR. Then again, it's also possible that it was nerves, and that with more playing time he'd start making those catches.

He could have caught it, but it would have been a phenomenal catch
