The current Rams brass are trying to reach the just post Disney crowd.

Hey they're back home in LA, and that matters a lot more than this other stuff imo. They just didn't land their reentry very well, , far to many casualties. I really didn't expect us to be among them tho.
It's certainly frustrating and hard to understand how they could start with 100,000 people on their opening day return, all happily and proudly wearing Gabriel's or Ferragamo's, and have the team think that it NEEDED to re-brand.

They actually thought they should compete in the fight for LA when it was already won. All they had to do was keep winning and keep looking good and the excitement around SoFi would have been enough in and of itself.

Now, they've marginalized the so-called "old fans" and have made a conscious decision to start over. It all seems very stupid. For the Rams' sake, hopefully it all works out. But IMO, they've taken a slam dunk and turned it into a clusterfuck.

1972 Rams Uniform Contest
LOOKING BACK
By John Turney
https://nflfootballjournal.blogspot.com ... ntest.html

In 1972 Carrol Rosenbloom acquire the Los Angeles Rams via a trade with Robert Irsay. Irsay received cash and the Baltimore Colts, the team Rosenbloom had owned since the early 1950s.

That season he held a contest for Rams fans to design the new Rams uniforms which were to be introduced in 1973.

Here are the ads that appeared in Pro! magazine, the Official program of the NFL:

How much the entries to the contest were used is not known but here is the final product, though not the final iteration. In preseason the white trim on the blue jerseys and the gold trim on the white jerseys were removed.

The winner of the contest was Victor Marcelli of Van Nuys, California.

In 2019 the Rams will don new uniforms and it is our understanding the Rams will be seeking some fan input into the process. Again, how much of it is used remains to be seen.

Until then the Rams are wearing a hodgepodge of uniform elements. New pants and white horns and white facemasks to go with the St. Louis era jerseys. The Rams did hold a poll to decide if the Rams facemasks were to be white or blue to go with the new white Rams horns. The fans chose white.

So with a uniform put together pell-mell for the next two seasons, Rams fans can at least hope for something good in 2019. If they keep the Nike influence out, as much as possible that is, perhaps there will be a chance for a well-designed uniform.

Until then, print out the contest page from 1972 and send in your ideas.

Coulda been the Colts - Rams - Rosenbloom - B&W TV effect.
