was jerry rice only in it for himself? mike singletary? emmitt smith? cornelius bennet, dan fouts, marshall faulk, etc., etc., etc.? c'mon... and the notion that a player doesn't care about his fans if he holds out, so fans shouldn't care about him, what's that all about? as if fans truly care about players, fan loyalty begins and ends with "what have you done for me lately", is there anyone roaming god's green earth who is more disposable than a pro athlete?

Bell never even signed his tender and hasn't had quite the career Donald has had. Injury prone, suspensions etc. He probably would have done the same thing as Donald had he had a good 3rd year.
I'm pretty shocked that OBJ didnt hold out but I think the Giants made it pretty clear that he was out if he did. But still, his numbers are sick and if AD deserves a new deal so does he.

Bell getting 12.1 mil guaranteed and is a free agent after this year, way different than the Donald situation...

yes ... Pace, and a slew of others.

If I am knowingly going to put my life on the line and take a shorter life expectancy and take a 99% chance that I will get CTE .. I'd better be getting my sweet ass loaded so I can handout a few million to each of my surviving relatives.

man, I wanna party with you.

NOT!!

I can handle anything. This is just a game. It is supposed to be competitive and passionate, not analytical and deliberative.

Whatever. You live in your world. I will root in mine.

You can care all you want. It's a free country. I am a Rams fan not a Donald fan. If he isn't on the team I don't care about him. The fact that he chooses to be away just furthers my thoughts on the matter.

pretty sure we're all rams fans... but you didn't answer my question, do you think the players i listed were also in it only for themselves? they didn't care about their teammates, the game, or the fans?

I am voting in this column.

Holdouts are just business. The business side of it sometimes gets messy. I don't hold that against the player.

Saying players should short-change the business side of it just turns "caring about fans and the game" into a pro-management stance. It's not more noble, it's just more pro-management.
