Moderator Breakfast With Kevin Demoff: Official New Uniform Thread POST #1561 If you are basing no change on team success, even decades ago, how does that apply to the Rams? They made changes after being historically horrible sans for the GSOT years and those STL changes were submitted long before those years. Granted, they changed cities so that’s a huge factor. Moke, the cowboys are “America’s Team”. They don’t HAVE to change or rebrand. If you are arguing the Rams didn’t have to either - I don’t think the Rams merch sales/popularity is the same or even close to the Cowboys. And THAT was probably the driving factor. Old school Rams fans aren’t enough to grow the brand as far as the big brass are concerned. They went with a modern, super hero look to capture new and YOUNGER fans in order to grow the brand and team popularity with fans other than us older fans. They “tried” to satisfy us with some of their moves; colors, “horns” on helmet. They also are trying desperately to connect with the LA market and dominate it. These are my opinions as to why they made the changes they did. Especially compared to those other stories franchises. I don’t think NFL fans see the Rams like they see the pack, Steelers or cowboys. We will see if these moves in fact pay off with a larger and younger demographic fan base in the years to come. Frankly, winning consistently and winning championships is the real panacea for growth - regardless of colors, brand, uniform style. Bottom line is; us old schoolers are carrying less and less weight with the Rams. And old old school fans of those other teams carry a ton of weight. by moklerman 5 years 1 month ago Total posts: 7680 Joined: Apr 17 2015 Bakersfield, CA Hall of Fame Breakfast With Kevin Demoff: Official New Uniform Thread POST #1562 ramsman34 wrote:If you are basing no change on team success, even decades ago, how does that apply to the Rams? And old old school fans of those other teams carry a ton of weight. If winning was paramount to branding then it makes no sense to me why they would go away from the throwbacks they've been wearing. The return to LA, one of the best 3 year runs in team history, mostly while wearing the classic blue and yellow. Why is it that isn't good enough when teams like the Packers, Cowboys, Steelers...hell, the Raiders haven't had the same level of success but still bring in new fans as well as keep their old fans?Instead of building on what was in place and celebrating the success they've had, they've scrapped it all again. But THIS time it's forever? No, all they've done is reinforce the vagabond history of the team and showed that they think so little of the team's tradition that they're willing to just chuck it.If you don't respect yourself, no one else will either. by TomSlick 5 years 1 month ago Total posts: 2908 Joined: Jun 01 2015 Many of us know the feeling of the universe conspiring to bring car and driver together. To me it says they have a tradition that is undeterred by the current "what's hip" look.Men's clothes probably haven't changed much in over a hundred years. Women's fashions are constantly changing to always find the next "new" thing. The RAMS, with their revolving door of unis, reminds me of women's fashions...which also leads me to think their current selection will go out of style in a decade and they will do this again. It seems desperate to me to always want to be the belle of the ball, rather than sit back and be confident in yourself. Love doing amateur shrink job on our team.As for the move from blue/white to blue/yellow back in the 70s, I was a kid and thrilled by it since I always thought yellow went better, than white, with blue. However, I was always true to my team so in 1969 I painted my one-man kayak blue/white. However, for this go around I was hoping for blue/white because looking back on it, that was one badass look...clean, nice lines, stalwart. Old race cars and the men and women who piloted these beasts are covered in Vintage Motorsport magazine. The eras covered are about 1900 to the year 2010 or so. Great writing and photography. 1 by rams74 5 years 1 month ago Total posts: 1744 Joined: Nov 19 2015 Glendale, Arizona Pro Bowl Breakfast With Kevin Demoff: Official New Uniform Thread POST #1564 Elvis liked this post Regarding the 1973 Rams' new uniforms, I was not local and therefore had no idea the Rams were changing their look. So I was shocked by the change, and I didn't like it at first. Mostly I was still smarting over the fact the Roman Gabriel was gone. That was a culture shock for me. But I quickly fell in love with the blue and yellow uniforms. John Hadl and Harold Jackson got off to such a fast start that there was really no looking back. It was onwards and upwards. 1 by moklerman 5 years 1 month ago Total posts: 7680 Joined: Apr 17 2015 Bakersfield, CA Hall of Fame Breakfast With Kevin Demoff: Official New Uniform Thread POST #1565 TomSlick wrote:I respect the teams that have stayed the course with their unis. I liked that the Pirates/Steelers/Penguins matched or the Cardinals/Cardinals or whatever. So, the Dodgers and Rams basically matching worked for me on that level.I prefer the 3 color look of the '73-'99 though. I honestly think it was one of the best uniforms regardless of the fact that it was my team. I do not like the Penn St. 2 color, bland look. Some think it's crisp and clean but to me, it's drab. The '73-'99's were unique, classic and razzle dazzle. All of which is how I felt about the Rams. Now, they just seem cheap and fad-like, superficial and soft. by ramsman34 5 years 1 month ago Total posts: 10040 Joined: Apr 16 2015 Back in LA baby! Moderator Breakfast With Kevin Demoff: Official New Uniform Thread POST #1566 But I wonder, if the Rams O is high flying aerial assault mixed with a speed and power run game, lighting teams up and the D is fast and furious, reeking QB havoc, getting picks, sound in the run game - basically back to top dogs - those unis might look “flashy”for the O and “tough” for the D. It’s all perception and a lot of perception/opinion is driven by winning and how a team wins. by moklerman 5 years 1 month ago Total posts: 7680 Joined: Apr 17 2015 Bakersfield, CA Hall of Fame Breakfast With Kevin Demoff: Official New Uniform Thread POST #1567 ramsman34 wrote:But I wonder, if the Rams O is high flying aerial assault mixed with a speed and power run game, lighting teams up and the D is fast and furious, reeking QB havoc, getting picks, sound in the run game - basically back to top dogs - those unis might look “flashy”for the O and “tough” for the D. The main reason I am willing to consider the Gabriel's is because I am a fan of a city's sports teams matching.
