I can't figure it out, because blue is my goto color. I wear blue pants all the time, whether jeans or dockers or even a suit.

Agreed about the Bone over Yellow. Bone over Blue isn't bad either. Looks fresh to me. However, the bone is too weak on it's own. Not enough color. Nothing "POPS" for me.

Elvis wrote:Serious question: Does anyone remember how the Feragamos were received in '73? It was a pretty radical change from the Deacon Jones blue and whites. I wasn't paying much attention to the Rams then but i remember some of my friends saying they looked like college uniforms...

I was 12 years old when the Rams switched from the blue and whites to the royal and gold. I remember it well. The difference then was we didn't get color TV until 1970. I had heard the reason they went to blue and white originally, was because it showed up better on B & W TV than the blue and gold before that.

Back then, they did the right thing and had a design contest for fans. It got fans involved, which is probably the #1 reason they went back to blue and gold.

I remember watching the unveiling on the news. I wasn't a fan at first, but before the first season game they made adjustments to them and I was completely on board. Pre-season games had the first design.

You can still see the original design on YouTube if you search "LA Rams 1972 Yearbook." The design is at the end of the video.

This was before the internet, so I don't know what the general public's reaction was. I just remember my own.

I have said this many times. They should have allowed the fans to "vote" on the final 5 uni's and logos. All of this could have been avoided. Sometimes the solution is so easy, it's hard for some to understand.

They could have said "well, the fans voted...", instead, Dumoff was willing to fall on the sword if his "opinion" was not well received...and it wasn't.

the thing with these mockups is that they use the "old" gold-yellow, the new rams yellow (sol) is much more of a normal yellow it seems...

the first time i saw the 1973 rams uniforms was on monday night football, dandy don and company actually laughed when the rams took the field while taking jabs at them... then the rams proceeded to whip the giants which caused meredith to chuckle "well i guess when you look good you play good, huh fells? ha ha...".

UtahRam wrote:I wonder what would happen if the Steelers or Packers or Raiders changed their uniforms, added a bone color, modified the logo on their helmet. How would that go over with fans of the team? How about general NFL consensus? Would fan forums erupt into arguments? How many fans would say, "hey, they are targeting a new generation" or "people need to accept change and stop clinging to the past" or "I can live with it". Would the numbers be 53% for, 47% against if the Packers changed their uniforms? What makes the Steelers, Packers and Raiders different than the RAMS? More Super Bowl wins indeed. So if the RAMS had been more of a success would they have stuck to more traditional ways? Why would people view the Raiders history as more important than the RAMS history? Was this all just an attempt at a money grab? Does the cost and burden of a new state of the art stadium outweigh the need to stay traditional and try to make money any way you can? Does the poor fan support for such a large metro city as seen at many home games and embarrassingly in the Super Bowl provoke these types of changes? If RAMS merchandise sells poorly what do the RAMS do? Would they really go through all of this and change things again? How would they change? Add more colors? My head is spinning.

Your take is very much legit. IF, the RAMS see themselves as a storied franchise like those teams clearly are. Something tells me they "think" that. But, they are trying to be game changers, visionaries, etc., and don't think this new branding/look adversely affects the legacy. Also, those aforementioned teams have made changes through the years as noted by looking at their throwbacks - especially the Packers and Steelers. Those changes might have been seen as very dramatic back then - but doesn't seem to compare to the Rams level of dramatic change. We are all too close to the Rams to be unbiased, however.

Thanks!

Those teams made very few and minor changes if any to their uniforms since the sixties which coincides with their team success.

Was going to say the same thing. Packers, Raiders, Cowboys, Steelers...pretty much the same since the merger. 50+ years of continuity and still selling plenty of merchandise. Still don't seem to have any trouble recruiting new fans.

Cowboys haven't won crap in a LONG time yet they haven't re-branded or had trouble attracting the 18-49 demographic.
