St. Loser Fan wrote:But isn't that another danger for the Rams and Chargers if the Raiders are more accessible for LA residents?

RedAlice wrote:I don't get your constant "danger" type thing about LA fans for the Rams.
OMG! The Raiders are in Sin City, a short 4 hour drive. Rams fans are bailing as if there is a fire!!!!

I think what he was saying is the TV coverage and possible new Rams and Chargers fans sticking or turning Silver and Black.

LA sure got football back in a big way.

DirtyFacedKid wrote:Back on the Chargers topic for a sec...

This morning I was listening to AM 710 while driving to go surf and [whoever was on at that time] brought up a good point about the Chargers. They suggested the Chargers should really set themselves apart brand-wise and go for something regional like the California or Southern California Chargers. Sure, keep L.A. as the homebase, but leave the City of Los Angeles to the Rams.

They would stand a better chance of 1) creating a new fan base with a new brand while 2) not trying to infiltrate the L.A. market/brand and 3) having an outside chance of keeping a few previous Charger fans by spinning it with a "we changed stadiums but we're still here for our Southern California fans" take on it. Although, the latter is quite a stretch.

Interesting approach. California Chargers makes sense and alliterates nicely.

So here's a conspiracy scenario as to why ESK might be trying to help Spanos.
Last year, the Chargers didn't want anybody in LA. In order to stop that that had to seize LA and joined forces with the Raiders with an alternative plan. That didn't work out and the Rams got LA. The losers were placated with a limited chance to join.
Let's assume ESK wants the city for himself and would likely be more concerned about the Raiders market share than the Chargers. So as a result, ESK helps facilitate the ruse to keep the Raiders out and help the city of SD take notice.
Worst case scenario, the CSD doesn't pull the trigger, well then the option is alive in LA.
Could the NFL be in on it too? Press conferences (not rallies) with Goodell. All looks legit. They were willing to pony up extra dough to keep them and the Raiders put.

Or it is as it appears now that the Chargers are going to actually leave their beloved fan base. If so, Spanos should sell.

Hard to believe that 3 cities (2 in California) are going to lose their teams in 2 seasons.

Harder for me to wrap my head around that fact that L.A. may get two effing teams after a 20-something year drought.

a state (or regional) name for a team is nothing new, albeit i don't think it ever successfully invited, or netted, out of market fans....

Probably not, but it would leave the Rams as the only team named for Los Angeles specifically.
I'd like that better if the Chargers are actually going to move here.

And it perhaps it might even fool some out of region Californians ... ;) 8-)

yeah, i'd much rather the rams be the only "l.a." named team but, ya know what, the "l.a. rams" is so ingrained into my memory banks that i doubt the "l.a. chargers" will bother me much, just like the "l.a. raiders" didn't bother me much, instead the raiders just struck me as a johnny come lately team globbing onto the l.a. market, and name... heck, even when the rams moved to st. louis i never got used to calling them the st. louis rams, they were always the l.a. rams to me... that said, what does bother me is sharing a stadium with another nfl team, i would much rather the rams have their own house.

Sharing the city and our home bothers me. Splitting TV time, all that. But yeah we finally get the dream home and have to share it with a clingon bugs me too.

I imagine there will be 8 weekends a year when we'll see a Raider Nation caravan heading up and down the 15. I picture SWA and other regional airlines running "Game Day" ticket specials as well.

You'll see tix being sold at the same booths they sell show tix.

The Raiders won't have any problems filling seats there, IMO.

Good post bro. Yea in the days before the vote and move I remember looking at market foot prints. An if I recall the Raiders had the biggest foot print or following in our country outside of their market borders. So I don't believe this will change and it may even help them some outside of their traditional market.

I think the team this is gonna effect the most is the Broncos they have had the widest footprint as far as states covered in land miles and tv time. The move by the Raiders further east is gonna effect some of the programming for states that live close to the spine we call the Rocky mountains.

This could really heat that rivalry even more since the Raiders new location is gonna cause programming for some tv markets to be changed from what has traditional been Broncos games to Raiders games.

So I can see Denver becoming a bit of a loser from this move in as far as the tv market they will lose.
