And.. yet.. with *their own track record* of success.. they chose to draft a future LT with the 32nd pick.
What does that tell us about the importance of the position?

Less important than corner back which the Saints took at 11?

It's always a combination of need and value. And everyone knows LOT is a very highly valued position with the top prospects regularly getting picked at the top of the first round.

But i find it highly unlikely the Rams are going into this draft with the idea that they're taking Oline at 23 pretty much regardless.

The Rams have plenty of needs. It will come down to value, imo...

How about starting a new and separate "early draft discussions" thread?

True, but at this point, that's pretty much what this thread is...

And they had planned on him being RT
Of course it does need to be said that they also had the #11 pick in the draft so were able to take a couple of players. In fact they drafted 6 players in the first 3 rounds where the Rams will have only 2 pick in the same time frame.

Good point, maybe we should just rename the thread?

I don't think anyone said "pretty much regardless." I myself kept saying "if a guy is there" (meaning a guy worth the pick of course). I also didn't frame it as mindreading what the Rams would do and I don't think anyone else did either--it was just discussion.

My own view is, though, if they think they need to get a left OT sooner rather than later then the odds of getting someone after round 2 are very very bad.

Realistically, OT, CB, LB/edge, and NT are all in the discussion. Those are the obvious needs.

well i think it had more to do with armstead's health, not an iron man the saints have been able to count on.... if the rams had a lt who only saw the field 68% of the time since being named starter i would hope they would be looking too, heck saffold has managed to stay on the field longer.

And what does their number of picks have to do with the value of the player taken at 32? This makes no sense.

You seriously need to take meds man.
I was agreeing with you that they moved him. Jeesh.
And it makes perfect sense but since you are so obtuse you can’t even read it.
You must be a real hoot at parties. Smh

Who ever get's cherry picked off our team will need to get replaced by an equal or superior player. Same with those who we cut for monetary purposes. That will make the 'need' list much more clear.

You can never have enough quality protection or good DB's.

I've read here several times that our LB/Edge is soft. Also one of our better players there might be a cap casualty. I'd have to agree and spend extra time scouring players for that position.

We went big on O in '17.... '18 should focus on D.

BTW we might get UFA Easley back . I doubt that injury will have teams lining up like they are for our coaches.

My response was to the rest of your respose which contained all sorts of qualifiers about why it's different for the Saints.
That's the source of my exasperation on that particular response.

Let’s just reset this and start over.
We agree to disagree on the need for an olineman with the Rams 1st pick.

Left OT not Olineman.

You can more easily find guards, centers, and ROTs after round 2.

That's not true of LOTs. Which is why 75% of the original designated starters at LOT in the league were 1st and 2nd rounders. From 2006 to 2015, only 6 of 122 drafted OTs picked from round 3 and after became starting LOTs. And so on. It's just a traditionally harder position to fill.

So what we're agreeing to disagree on is whether to use a 1st round pick on a left OT in 2018. 8-)
