St. Loser Fan wrote:But isn't that another danger for the Rams and Chargers if the Raiders are more accessible for LA residents?

Plus I landed in Vegas the day after the NBA All Star Game was there. Let's hope it doesn't get that bad.

And, ok I have to say: you live in StL and are worried about Vegas?

I was in StL for the Packers @Rams pre-season game. I'm sure you know what happened that weekend.

For those who don't know as the StL fans should: Ferguson.

One of the many reasons the Rams failed in St. Louis was the visiting fan takeovers we had. After the 3-13, 2-14 and 1-15 seasons plus the move threats visiting fans started swarming to St. Louis. They knew they could buy tickets cheap, get here easily and have a great time. And it was actually great for local hotels bars and restaurants as they did great business from all of the out of town fans. But it was tough for fans. It sucks sitting there having Cowboys fans on all 4 sides of you in your home stadium.

I'm concerned for Vegas because I've seen firsthand what happens when visitors outnumber locals. It's not the way to keep a team. Are Las Vegas Raiders fans going to keep buying tickets if they know they'll be outnumbered?

First, No. You implied this was a danger for Rams keeping fans. On that you are wrong.

Also, and as I already said: Raider Nation is it's own thing. I'm pretty sure you should not be worried one bit about them keeping their fans. They all good.

And I will add: it's a fucking town that people VISIT. Vegas IS tourists.

But hey, if you want to be worried about Vegas thriving as an NFL city, have at it.

Dude! I never said shut-up, and I am constantly nice to you even when you are being all, well, I'm not sure what.

Facts are that LA is different, and Raider Nation is not in trouble no matter where home base is.

what you started here is a dig at LA, and that kinda thing is just wrong. We are a year into this now, just be a Rams fan. You have a friendly group here.

I imagine there will be 8 weekends a year when we'll see a Raider Nation caravan heading up and down the 15. I picture SWA and other regional airlines running "Game Day" ticket specials as well.

You'll see tix being sold at the same booths they sell show tix.

The Raiders won't have any problems filling seats there, IMO.

I agree with all of that. I think the question is who will be watching on TV?

Oakland i guess...

The Rams only failed in St. Louis for one reason: Kroenke wanted L.A.

St. Louis is a relatively small market without much upside while L.A. is huge with a ton of upside. Kroenke saw an opportunity and he went for it.

Everything else is just a way to either rationalize the move or bemoan it depending on your POV.

There are already lots of L.A. Raiders fans who go to Oakland for every home game.

And even if LV Raiders games were 100% out of country tourists, do you think the NFL really cares whose money their putting in the bank? The NFL wants to expand internationally, having a team in Las Vegas is a pretty good way to do that...

Back on the Chargers topic for a sec...

This morning I was listening to AM 710 while driving to go surf and [whoever was on at that time] brought up a good point about the Chargers. They suggested the Chargers should really set themselves apart brand-wise and go for something regional like the California or Southern California Chargers. Sure, keep L.A. as the homebase, but leave the City of Los Angeles to the Rams.

They would stand a better chance of 1) creating a new fan base with a new brand while 2) not trying to infiltrate the L.A. market/brand and 3) having an outside chance of keeping a few previous Charger fans by spinning it with a "we changed stadiums but we're still here for our Southern California fans" take on it. Although, the latter is quite a stretch.
