Behind "The Athletic" paywall just a part of the article.

Bone
Notables: The NFL granted the Rams permission to create a uniform that is specifically this color — one that didn’t previously exist in the league. NFL Films took the uniforms and a few players out to a vacant high school field in New Jersey last summer and shot activity as though it were a game to make sure the jersey would differentiate itself enough on screen, alongside an opposing color jersey.

The hue of the “Bone” jerseys was inspired by the natural color of a ram horn, as well as by California beaches and even the clothes of the players. Kirkham said the design team scrolled through player-arrival photos from game days and saw many repeatedly wearing designer clothing in this color.
Kirkham said the players have responded especially well to “Bone,” which breaks from the tradition of a standard white or all-white uniform.
The numbers do not have a gradient. Instead, the sleeves include the TV numbers instead of the yellow ram horn design.
The chest patch, with its contrasted yellow “signature stitch,” is the three-stack “identity” logo that reads “Los Angeles Rams.” Kirkham said it’s there because the team wants to take L.A. with them when they wear the jerseys on the road.
Quotables: “It did take me back to (my) Oregon times — I was thinking about all of the ways we could mix and match the uniforms. Just the ‘Bone,’ at least it was like, ‘Oh, that’s kind of innovative.’ When I was at Oregon, we used to wear all of the Nike stuff before it would come out. I feel like we’re the first doing that. Like I said, it kind of reminded me of those times. I feel like we’re going to be like the ‘Oregon’ of the league now!” — Hill

“I think it just maybe doesn’t shine as bright as white — I don’t know if it’s going to be more slimming, but any color sometimes helps a little bit with that. Like we always say, for a big guy, the worst game is when you wear a white uniform and dark pants because you basically look like some form of a popsicle. I think the all-Bone is gonna be pretty sweet, and I look forward to seeing what people think about it. I think it’s going to be really good-looking.” — Whitworth

The cheesy, fake, knockoff level appearance is now complete. This is like when you're a kid and want a GI Joe but you get an "Action Soldier".

I don't dislike them because I fear change, it's because they look like crap. I'd take the 2000 uniforms over these 1,000,000 times out of 1,000,000.

I was wondering if that is part of the combo. It looks awesome.

I would imagine that would be acceptable to the NFL.
