Since he's not on the list of coaches, it was obvious he wasn't joining the coaching staff, but for those wondering why he isn't on the coaching staff.

Los Angeles finally completed their coaching staff under McVay heading into his first season as head coach.

The Los Angeles Rams on Wednesday night officially announced the entire 18-man coaching staff that will be under new head coach Sean McVay for the 2017 season.
“We have a great group of talented coaches that I’m very excited to work with this year,” McVay said. “They have a vast array of experiences and the qualities we are looking for as we build this staff. Their unique insight to the game will collectively make this team better as we prepare for the 2017 season.”

The coaching staff will include Wade Phillips holding down the position of defensive coordinator meanwhile Matt LaFleur will be the offensive coordinator. John Fassel will return for his sixth season as the special teams coordinator.

The offensive side of the coaching staff will include Greg Olson (quarterbacks), Skip Peete (running backs), Eric Yarber (wide receivers), Zac Taylor (assistant wide receivers), Shane Waldron (tight ends), Aaron Kromer (offensive line), Zak Kromer (offensive quality control), and Andy Dickerson (assistant offensive line).

The defensive end consists of Bill Johnson (defensive line), Joe Barry (assistant head coach/linebackers), Thad Bogardus (defensive quality control), Aubrey Pleasant (cornerbacks), Chris Shula (assistant linabackers), and Ejiro Evero (safeties). It will also include Ted Rath (strength and conditioning), who is entering his first year with the position with the Rams.

Here is a closer look at each coach on the staff:

Wade Phillips (Defensive Coordinator) – He has coaching experience that spans over 25 seasons as a defensive coordinator with seven different teams. His most recent gig was commanding the Denver Broncos' defense, who finished in the top five in each of the last two years under his control ranking first in 2015 and fourth in 2016. He also served as a head coach for nine seasons and was named Assistant Coach of the Year twice by the Pro Football Writers of America (2011 & 2015).

Matt LaFleur (Offensive Coordinator) – He had spent the last two seasons as an assistant with the Falcons under former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. Prior to that, he held the same position with Norte Dame and Washington Redskins while also being the offensive quality control coach to begin his NFL coaching career with the Houston Texans. He also had five collegiate coaching stops gigs over the course of his career.

John Fassel (Special Teams Coordinator) – He has been with the Rams in this position for the last five seasons. This inlcudes his units finishing near the top fo the league statistically. He was the interim head coach for the last three games of the 2016 season. Prior to his stop with Los Angeles, he was spent time with the Raiders in the same position and served as an assistant with the Baltimore Ravens.

Joe Barry (Assistant Head Coach/Linebackers) – He has a wealth of coaching experience at both the NFL and collegiate level. He was the linebackers coach with the San Francisco 49ers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, San Diego Chargers, USC, UNLV, and Northern Arizona. He was also the defensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions. He last gig was being defensive coordinator for the Redskins over the last two seasons.

Greg Olson (Quarterbacks) – This marks the second stint for Olsen with Rams. He was the Jacksonville Jaguars' offensive coordinator the last two seasons. Prior to that, he was the Oakland Raiders' offensive coordinator for two years, and Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2008 to 2011. He was also the Rams' offensive coordinator from 2006 to 2007. He was the quarterbacks coach for the San Francisco 49ers in 2001 and Chicago Bears in 2003. Olsen also held that position with the Detroit Lions in 2004 and 2005.

Bill Johnson (Defensive Line) – He has coached defensive line for about four decades, including 16 seasons in the NFL His last gig was with the Saints, where spent the last eight years. He also hed that position with the Broncos and Falcons.

Aaron Kromer (Offensive Line) – He has spent 11 years in the NFL as an offensive line coach for four different teams. His most recent stop was the last two years for the Buffalo Bills. Prior to that he worked with Saints, Buccaneers, and Raiders. This included being the offensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears from 2013 to 2014 and had even held the position of interim coach for the Saints for the first six games of the 2012 season while head coach Sean Payton was out due to the suspension for the bounty scandal.

Zak Kromer (Offensive Quality Control) – He held the same position with the Bills during the 2016, and prior to that he was a student assistant for the University of Oklahoma.

Skip Peete (Running Backs) – He had originally joined the Rams' coaching staff before last season. Prior to that, he held the same position with the Bears, Raiders, and Dallas Cowboys. He also has a plethora of experience coaching at the collegiate level spending time at UCLA, Rutgers, Michigan State, and Pittsburgh.

Ejiro Evero (Safeties) – He was the defensive quality control coach for the Packers last season. Prior to that, he spent five seasons with the 49ers in different capacities such as a defensive assistant, offensive assistant and quality control coach.

Aubrey Pleasant (Cornerbacks) - He coached together with McVay over the last four seasons with Washington. He had begun hi coaching career as an offensive assitant and work his way up to assistant defensive backs coach last year.

Thad Bogardus (Defensive Quality Control) – He is set to enter his fourth season as a coach in the NFL. He spent the last two season in this position with the Broncos, and prior to that held that spot with the Bills in 2014.

Andy Dickerson (Assistant Offensive Line) – This will mark his sixth season with the Rams, 11th overall in the NFL. He had previously served as an assistant for the Cleveland Browns and New York Jets.

Shane Waldron (Tight Ends) – He served as the offensive quality control coach for the Redskins last year. His previous coaching experience includes wide receivers for the Hartford Colonials (UFL), and tight ends and offensive quality control for the New England Patriots.

Eric Yarber (Wide Receivers) – His most recent gig has been holding this same position with UCLA since the 2012 season. Prior to that, he spent two years with the Buccaneers and five seasons overall in the NFL holding gigs with Seattle Seahawks, Oregon State, San Francisco 49ers, University of Washington and Arizona State.

Zac Taylor (Assistant Wide Receivers) – He had spent the 2016 season as the offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach for the Cinninicati Bearcats. His previous NFL experience began in 2012 coaching quarterback with the Miami Dolphins and was named the team's offensive coordinator in 2015.

Chris Shula (Assistant Linebackers) – He had been hired as the defensive quality control coach for the San Dieog Charges back in 2015 after he was the defensive coordinator at John Carroll University. He is the grandson of Hall of Fame hed coach Don Shula.

Ted Rath (Strength and Conditioning) – He had spent the 2016 season in the same position with the Dolphins. Prior to that, he held that same gig with the Detroit Lions for seven seasons.
