yet of the 83 qualifying offensive guards pff graded in 2019, edwards ranked 68th in pass pro and corbett ranked 51st, both bottom half of the league, so how does this square? out of one side of their mouth pff says edwards and corbett provided "some impressive production" and pointed to high rankings in pressure and sacks allowed, and out of the other side of their mouth pff says they ranked poorly in pass pro.

what edwards did excel in according to pff rankings, ironically, is run blocking, he came in at 23rd... according to pff, out of 83 qualifying offensive guards, rams guards ranked:

edwards - overall 45th, pass pro 68th, run blocking 23rd.
corbett - overall 66th, pass pro 51st, run blocking 58th.
noteboom - overall 83rd (dead last), pass pro 70th, run blocking 83rd (dead last).

Those PFF stats are not exactly a ringing endorsement about Kromer's Yutes
….and I actually thought David Snead5thRoundSteal! Edwards was pretty stout & stellar in 2019. Edwards was the pick of the litter IMHO.

BTW, I listened to a podcast interview with a Chicago area wannabe reporter and David Edwards, who is also a Chicago area guy. Some of their DeepDish Pizza outlet comparisons alluded me.....but here's some interesting things from David Edwards.
Wisconsin had a southpaw QB in Edwards senior year, so as the Badger RT Edwards was the BlindSide guy....and he was confident in the job he did at Wisconsin and proud of his efforts.
But whilst he felt good about himself as an effective NCAA OT, Edwards feels his future in the NFL is best served as a Guard due to his relatively shorter arms. Sounds like the kid had his head screwed on right and was very well-spoken, articulate and polite...….that Edwards guy could've even passed for a Canadian!!!

It would be just as wrong to portray Kromer as a snake oil salesman who tricked the Rams into making certain personnel moves as it would be to say these moves were forced on him without any input on his part.

Though i think it's a lot more reasonable imagine the Rams telling Kromer, "look, based on our other priorities, there's no way we're gonna be able to keep Saffold," than for Kromer to have said to the Rams, "i don't care if he wants to stay and we can afford it, i'm telling you to let him walk."

And btw as long as I am here...this argument that AK inherited all his talent in previous gigs? Absolutely not.

In Chicago then Buffalo when Kromer was in each place, they drafted 4 linemen, and all 4 are still starters now, except Kyle Long who was driven into retirement by injuries.

In Chicago 2013-2014 they drafted Long (1st round), Mills (5th round), and Leno (7th round). . All well-graded multi-year starters.

In Buffalo they drafted Miller (3rd round), who is also a multi-year starter.

That's 4 tries and 4 hits, including a 7th round starting LOT (Leno).

For Kromer? There absolutely was. Bill Callahan was jobless there for a bit. McV worked with him in Washington--he was the OL coach when McV was there. BC was originally McVay's first choice with the Rams in 2017, but he was not available and then Kromer came free so they hired him instead. If McV really wanted to move on, he had Callahan as a choice in 2020. For a while he did anyway...then the Browns hired him.

here's a look at how pff ranked the rams olinemen (overall, pass pro, run blocking) and the niners olinemen... the drop-off by whit, hav and blythe was staggering when compared to last season's rankings.

looking at the niners olinemen grades, they weren't particularly stout in pass pro according to pff, which shanny apparently adjusted for given garoppolo ranked 3rd in shortest time to throw and 7th in shortest average depth of pass, i.e. the niners got rid of the ball quickly on pass plays... looking at the niners' run blocking numbers, they ranked pretty well for the most part, but you have to wonder how much they benefited from having a fb on the field 35% of the time and an extra tight end on the field 35% of the time, a lot i would imagine.

ME: Having seen and having documented late season 2019 Rams OL performance, I again agree with you PA in that McSnead will spend Draft Treasure and/or FA bucks on the 2020 Rams OL.

Again....if Los Ramos forget about Whitworth, I agree they need a FA vet LT....hopefully Trent Williams the stud Redskin LT.

Well to be honest, I only listed the guys who started a game on the O line. I omitted Chandler Brewer and Coleman Shelton, two UDFA's.

And for those folks who pointed to SF's OL production while missing their two OT's, Joe Staley and Mike McGlinchey, they had a little more experienced OL including the backups who subbed for them.

Person (8th yr; 7th round)
Garland (8th yr; UDFA)
Richburg (5th yr; 2nd round-NYJ)

Again, not an excuse, just the facts. San Fran's average experience was 5.0 yrs, the Rams 3.1. Average round drafted was SF 3.0, LA 3.8. So higher picks and more experience might have helped or it might not have helped.
