Rams at Saints (-3.5) — One thing you guys did jump on me about was my contention that the Rams defense would be a lot better in the playoffs than it was in the regular season. Tsk tsk. Anyone who doesn’t know that Ndamukong Suh picks his spots hasn’t been watching him all these years, and the Rams clinched a playoff spot a long time ago. Suh was a force against the Cowboys — McVay said he had “a look in his eyes” — and he lines up next to Aaron Donald, the best defensive player in the NFL.

Also, cornerback Aqib Talib is back healthy and playing really well again. Talib didn’t play when the Saints’ Michael Thomas caught 12 passes for 211 yards in New Orleans’ 45-35 win over Los Angeles in November. And the Saints aren’t marching like they were back then either — they have averaged 19 points in their last six games. The visiting Rams will be able to score enough to win, even though Jared Goff is not the same without injured receiver Cooper Kupp. The Rams are running more to offset that. RAMS

so vic's popping his own champagne and playing the "i told you so" card because the rams defense showed up at home against the league's 22nd ranked road scoring offense? because they showed up against a team that owns a 1-4 road record against teams with a winning record? btw, how did talib do against foles?

anyway, i want nothing more than vic's premature celebration to hold true throughout the postseason, but i'd pump the brakes a bit before thinking the rams defense has become the monsters of the midway now that the playoffs have started.

btw, what's with this "suh picks his spots" stuff? and why does vic seem to gush over it? for what that cat makes i'd like to think the spots he picked included every single game he played.

Its an interesting question. I remember similar claims used to be made about Shaq in the playoffs.

Does Suh play at less than 100% effort during the regular season? I certainly hope not. As aeneas1 said, we're paying him for the whole year.

Could it be more of a positive thing... that he gives 100% during the regular season, but the playoffs prompt him to "turn it up to eleven"? Faulty math aside, I suppose the urgency of the playoffs could increase focus and intensity, but I'm not sure that is really different from saying he doesn't give 100% in the regular season (more of an excuse for not doing so).

Either way, if Suh plays his best game of the year on Sunday, that would be a good thing!

Just to be clear, I have already done the appropriate procedures with all the necessary Gods, spirits and so forth. So if anything happens this is NOT on me.

Two years in a row now, in the grand scheme of things, very few injuries. Talking about Suh, is this type of thing coachable?

Good lord I hope so.

So, listening to Sirius XM NFL Radio this am, Payton and Bobby Hebert are imploring the fans to not only make noise when our offense is at the line of scrimmage, but during the entire play clock. LOL. Make it impossible for Rams to communicate.

Desperado, why don't you come to your senses
Your team is defenseless, against our mighty Rams
Desperado, you keep counting your chances
You and you fans know, that you're going DOWN!

Looks like the Saints will be without their starting TE:

New Orleans Saints tight end Ben Watson won't play this week against the Rams, according to a source. Watson missed two practices due to appendicitis, and while he's been able to avoid surgery so far, the team decided he'll be inactive this week. http://www.espn.com/espn/now?nowId=21-41053235-4
